Parent Advisory Board Meeting
The Parent Advisory Board is open to all parents with children enrolled here at
Laulima CDC. There are no dues or registration requirements to be a member.
The meetings are a wonderful opportunity for you to become involved in the
event planning for the program and to have your ideas heard. These meetings
are conducted quarterly and dates will be posted at the front desk. The mission of the Parent Advisory Board is to increase parental involvement, promote
family activity and provide a forum where parents share their ideas and suggestions. We believe that when parents become more involved in the care and
education of their children, everyone benefits.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 26th from 430-530pm in
the training room. We look forward to seeing you there.
Happy Birthday!!!!!!

Trainer’s Corner: Coping with a child who bites
When your child bites another child, it can be frustrating and embarrassing. It is
important to remember for babies, their hands and mouths are the first social
tools. The young child’s job is to use these tools, and the parent/caregiver’s job is
to teach them how. Sometimes, these behaviors can become aggressive behaviors
in the toddler years. Aggressive biting is most common between 18 months and
2.5 years. Toddlers may bite in order to release unexpressed anger, control a situation, show power, or to get attention from adults. A child may be tired, out of
their routine or may just want to see the reaction that occurs when they bite. It
is important to find the “trigger” for your child; meaning what is contributing to
the biting. Is it an issue with confined space , i.e. too many children in their space, are
they having trouble communicating etc. If your child bites, immediately take the child
aside and tell them you cannot let them bite because biting hurts. Encourage them to
use appropriate words or phrases such as “not nice”, “no thank you” and “I don’t like
that.” Be patient and model appropriate, kind behaviors that you would like them to express. In a child care setting, it is important that the parents and caregivers work together and have the overlapping strategies so the child has similar and clear expectations
both at home and at the child care facility. Let us know if we can help!

Notes from the Nurse
MCBH Preventative Medicine requires that the Children, Youth and Teen (CYT) programs follow the current age appropriate immunizations as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This requirement also includes an updated Influenza vaccine for 2013-2014. Please help us to ensure that your child’s immunization record on file with us is current by submitting the needed required documentation to our front desk
staff. If you need to update your child’s immunization record, please check with your child’s doctor or the MCBH
Immunization Clinic. Remember, the best way to easily protect our children and the community is to vaccinate.
