Based on your reading of two short stories, you are going to write an essay comparing and
contrasting the following characters: Della from the “The Gift of the Magi” and Madame Loisel
from “The Necklace.”
Think about their similarities (compare) and their differences (contrast). Discuss specifically
their lifestyles, personalities, and attitudes. Be sure to use evidence from the text as your
supporting details.
