North finding Demonstration
The approach used in our demonstration involves precisely measuring the orientation of
the earth’s “spin” vector (i.e. North). This is facilitated by the VG091A-2LN inherent low
noise characteristics.

North finding Demonstration
SYSTEM SET-UP
• Based on lab-view software &
standard hardware
• Small stepper motor
OPERATION
• Stepper with mounted FOG scans 360o
• At pre-set point during scan gyro
output is recorded
• VG091A-2LN is static during
measurement
• A sine curve is fitted onto recorded
output
• Highest point on curve indicates north
• Stepper is rotated to location of
highest point on curve to indicate
North
