Oakdale News DECEMBER 2016 Happy Christmas to you all! We have enjoyed a number of fantastic events at school this term. Many, many thanks to all the parents, grandparents pupils, staff and community members who have made this such a special time of year for the children. The Christmas Bazaar The Friends of Oakdale Christmas Bazaar raised a record amount this year. The grand total was £1,821 which will go towards projects to support the pupils. There were some changes this year. The refreshment room was very popular, especially the Krispy Kremes! The children were also more involved with each class creating their own items for sale. All the money made goes straight back to classes for them to decide how they would like to spend it. The class that raised the most this year were Year 6 who made £50 by selling their beautiful poinsettia tea lights. A big well done to all the classes who made a range of imaginative items to sell and thank you to our Year 6’s who gave up their time to run the stalls. We had some fabulous raffle prizes: amazing hampers, cash prizes and much more. Well done to all the lucky winners and thank you to everyone who donated prizes and items for the tombolas. The Bazaar would not have been possible without the hard work of parents and their families. We would like to thank Caroline Trotter, Kirsty Giordano, Anna Cannizzaro (Roberto’s mum), Kirsty Dawson, Sylwia Wisniewska (Kaan’s mum), Kathie Keirnan, Mark Wainwright, Anna Cannizzaro ( Theo’s mum), Dorata and Mariusz Ptasznik, Monika Chopra, Jacqui and Chris Murat, Kerry Cole and Carol Castle for all their hard work. To continue to run such great events, we really need more help. If you can give even a small amount of time, please contact either Caroline or Kirsty on [email protected]. or alternatively via the Friends’ Facebook page. Mrs Kaur - raffle winner The Nativity Reception, Years 1 and Year 2 performed in a traditional Nativity play this week. The children threw themselves into the songs with great enthusiasm! We were thrilled to be able to share the performance with so many people, including the local nurseries. The children performed confidently and were smiling throughout. A huge well done to both the adults and children involved. “The Nativity was really fun because you get some words to learn and you can do some actions. You can also sing lots of jolly songs. There were lots of parents watching so I felt a little shy, but then I got more confident and I was really proud of myself at the end. My parents really enjoyed it.” Viktor (aka Joseph) Age 7 Carol Concerts The Key Stage 2 Carol Concerts this year were the best yet! The Key Stage 2 classes chose their favourite songs and performed for parents and grandparents on stage. Year 6 even wrote their own version of The Twelve days of Christmas with a Pokémon in an Oak tree! I would like to congratulate the children on their impeccable behaviour and wonderful singing and dancing throughout. We were very proud of them. A big thanks to Miss Sansby, our Music Leader, for putting the show together. Look out for pictures in this Thursday’s Peterborough Telegraph. Other events this term The Rhyme Rocket (as seen on CBeebies) joined us for an exciting interactive literacy show. First Officer Ditty and Professor Poet 'beamed down' from Planet Rhyme for a live performance of rhyme, poetry, song and silliness. Their mission was to collect rhymes from pupils, which they used to power their rocket, in order to return back home to space! “Everyone was laughing because Rhyme Rocket was funny. We learnt how to make a good rhyme. I really liked the part with the cake as it was like the Pie Face game. We also had a dance at the end” Zade Age 6, Yr 2 Assemblies All class assemblies start at 9:00am and parents are invited to stay afterwards to share children’s work Key Dates Year 2 Wednesday 1st February Year 5 Wednesday 8th February Year 6 Wednesday 8th March Reception Wednesday 22nd March Year 1 Wednesday 29th March Wed 4th Jan Children back to school Fri 6th Jan Year 5 Swimming starts Mon 23rd Jan Clubs start Fri 27th Jan School photos and Friday Club Tues 14th - Fri 17 Feb Years 5 and 6 residential trip Friday 17th Feb Break up for half term Monday 27th Feb Children return to school Tues 28th Feb Year 2 SATs meetings 9:00a and 3:00pm Thursday 2nd Mar World Book Day Fri 3rd Mar Year 4 swimming starts – Friday Club Mon 6th Mar Clubs finish Tues 7th Mar Year 6 SATs meetings 9:00am and 3:00pm Wed 8th Mar - Fri 10th Mar Years 1 and 2 residential trip 15th and 16th Mar Parents’ evening Fri 24th Mar Red Nose Day Mon 3rd April and Tues 4th April Years 3 and 4 production to parents Fri 7th April Easter Egg Comp, last swimming for Year 4 and children break up Wed 26th April Children back in school I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of the school.
