LABORATORYCourseDescription:
Thisisthelaboratorycomponentofthefirsthalfofthetwosemesterintroductorychemistryseries.Wewill
beperformingexperimentsthatintroduceyoutovarioustechniquesinchemistry.Afterhavingcompletedthis
course,thestudentshould:
1. Knowandbeabletopracticesafeandgenerallyacceptedlaboratorytechniques
2. Understandthebasicprinciplesoftheexperimentsperformedandinstrumentsusedinthe
experiment.
3. Understandhowtouseandmanipulatedatainordertocalculateresultsforthegivenexperimentsto
thecorrectsigfigs.

1)Splash-prooflaboratorygogglesofthekindsoldinthecollegebookstorearetheonlyapprovedgogglesfor
thiscourse.Youareresponsibleforbringingyourgogglestolabeveryweek.Ifyoudonothavegogglesyou

LaboratorySafetyChemistrylaboratoryispotentiallydangerous.AnystudentwhoIbelieveposesadangerto

LaboratoryFormatAfivequestionprelabquizwilltakenby11:59pmthenightbeforethelab.Atthe
beginningoflabclassIwillinitialeachstudentsrubric,verifyingthattheywerepresent,prepared,andon
time.Iwillthengooverthesafetyandproceduraldetailsoftheexperiment.Studentswillworkingroupsof
twoorthree.Labreportsmustbecompletedandsubmittedbeforeleavingthelabthedayoftheexperiment.
AttendanceRegularandpunctualattendanceisexpected.Studentswhoarrivemorethan5minuteslatewill
lose1pointontheirpostlab.Studentsarrivingmorethan15minuteslatewillnotbeallowedtoparticipate

Pre-Labs:Eachexperimenthasa5-pointpre-labquiztobetakenonBlackboard.

conceptsexploredinthelab.
