When are visiting hours?
Visiting hours are 8a-8p. Individual restrictions may also be in place due to a patient’s medical condition. A health
screening and preparation are required for PICU visitors age 12 years and under.
Where can parents sleep?
Each patient room has a parent sleep chair or additional bed for one caregiver to spend the night with their child.
Some restrictions may apply for PICU admissions – please check with your child’s nurse. The Ronald McDonald
House may also be available if your home is a certain distance from the hospital. Your social worker can assist
you with this request. There are also hotels in the area (this information can be found on the back of this page).
Where can parents shower?
Parents may shower in their child’s room. If there is no shower in your child’s room there is also an accessible
shower next to the PICU waiting room.
Where can I fill my child’s prescriptions?
Inova Pharmacy Plus* is located on the ground floor in IHVI (Inova Heart and Vascular Institute).
Hours are:
Monday – Friday: 9 am – 9 pm
Saturday – Sunday: 11 am – 7 pm
*Inova Pharmacy Plus is our on-campus retail pharmacy that provides all the services of a neighborhood retail
pharmacy. This service may help take care of prescriptions needed at the time of discharge.
Where can I find resources and access the internet?
Free WiFi is available and will appear as “IHSPublic”. Our Health Sciences Library also has computers and
librarians available to help gather information for you. To find the library, call ext 3234 or take the green elevators
to level 1 and walk down the hallway to the left. At the end of the hallway turn right and follow the walkway until
you reach the library. The librarian may also be able to come to your child’s room to assist you.
Where can I find an ATM?
ATMs are in the Women and Children’s Lobby, the South Patient Tower lobby and the Skylight Café (original
building cafeteria).
Where can I eat in the hospital?
Dining On-Call @ ext 4500: You may order patient and parents trays to the room free of charge. This service is
available 6:30am to 7:30pm every day.
Southside Café in the South Patient Tower – Take the green elevators to level 1; make a quick right; continue
down hallway to the lobby & turn right; take the first hallway on the left to the cafeteria. Open 24 hours a day. The
Southside Café includes a hot meal, salad bar, pizza, deli, smoothies, coffee, ice cream, and grill.
Skylight Café in the basement of Original Building – Take and green elevators to BR. The rear elevator doors will
open, walk down the hallway. The cafeteria is on your left. This cafeteria offers made-to-order sandwiches, grill,
pizza, and salad bar. Hours for this cafeteria are 6:30a-2p.
Park Avenue Café Take the green elevators to level 1; walk down the hallway to the left; At the end of the
hallway turn right and you will see Park Avenue Café. This café offers made-to-order sandwiches, pre-made
salads and pasta salads, fruits, and baked goods. Park Avenue is open M-F 7:30a-8p, Sat 10a-4p, Sun 9a-3p.
Lobby Coffee Carts Located in the Women and Children’s lobby. The coffee cart offers coffee drinks, baked
goods, premade sandwiches, and fruit. The coffee cart of open M-F 8a-7p/S-S 9:30a-4p.
Unit Snack Cart on patient units. This cart visits each patient room daily during afternoon hours. The snack cart
includes bagged snacks, fruit, yogurt, ice coffee, and water. All snack items are free.

What transportation is available?
There are several stops for the METRO Bus System on the hospital’s campus. Please refer to their website at for
more information and schedules.
The Dunn Loring-Merrifield metro stop is located less than 3 miles from the hospital on Gallows Road.

Yorktown Shopping Center (Turn left onto Gallows Road, cross the intersection at Rt 50 and turn right into the
shopping center): CVS, Starbucks, Dominion Deli, Bank of American, Grevey’s Restaurant
Mosaic District (Turn left onto Gallows Road, cross the intersection at Rt 50, and turn left at the third light after Rt
50): Target, Panera, Noodles & Co, Chipotle, FedEx & many other restaurants and retail shops.
