Elementary Summer School 2017 Necedah Elementary is busy planning another exciting Summer School program! Most of these funfilled educational opportunities will be held June 12-30 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Registration begins April 24. You may register online at www.necedahschools.org or you may use the paper registration form attached. If you have any questions regarding the registration process please contact the office. All registrations should be in by May 15. Remember, some of these classes fill up quickly, so the earlier you register, the better chance your child will have of getting into their first choice. Back again by popular demand --- afternoon classes! We are offering several fun and enriching classes in the afternoons that will be open to all students, grades 1-8. Please see the course descriptions for more information on these classes. These classes will run on Mondays through Thursdays, June 12-29. There will be no Friday afternoon classes. Students may sign up for both morning and afternoon, morning only, or afternoon only classes, depending on what works best for your schedule. Students that stay for the afternoon classes will have lunch from 11:00-11:30, a supervised recess from 11:30-12:00, and then to their afternoon session from 12:00-2:30. The Summer Reading and Math Program will be offered in the afternoons for students entering grades 1-6. Classroom teachers will be contacting parents of those students who are in need of continued support in Reading and/or Math. These classes will be held Monday-Thursday, June 12-29. There will be no Friday afternoon classes. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. T-Ball and Ragball will be offered through our summer school program for students entering Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Classes will run on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 12-July 19 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Swimming Lessons at the New Lisbon Pool will be offered from July 3-21 (excluding July 4). A school bus will provide transportation between Necedah and New Lisbon. The cost will be $45.00 for the 3week session, payable to the New Lisbon City Pool. Our school will again be participating in the Summer Food Service Program for Children. Free meals will be offered to all children 18 years old and under from June 12-July 21 (excluding July 4). Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:00 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:00-11:45 a.m. If your child is attending summer school or participating in the NYBP ball program, please instruct them whether to order lunch or not, so enough food is prepared each day. Children not attending summer school are also welcome to eat here, we just ask that you call the office before 9:00 a.m. each day so the kitchen staff knows how many to plan for. There is no better way to start off your baseball or softball career than to play either T-Ball or Ragball. Owning a mitt is preferred, but not required. Baseball cleats are not required to play. There is no fee to participate. All participants will have the option to purchase a T-shirt for $6.00 if they choose. Schedule: Every Monday and Wednesday evening from June 12-July 19 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to stay and watch! T-Ball Entering Kindergarten and Grade 1 (ages 5-6) Players will learn the basic skills necessary to start learning to play ball. Throwing and catching the ball are key fundamentals, as is learning to bat off of a batting tee. Other skills will be taught over the course of the summer in order to make this a great learning experience. Ragball Entering Grade 2 and 3 (ages 7-8) This program builds upon the skills learned at younger ages. Besides throwing and catching, these young athletes will learn how to field ground balls and catch fly balls. It will be an introduction to skills that will help prepare your child for starting school for the first time! We will be completing many hands-on activities that incorporate art, music, science, math, story time and socialization. Children will be engaged in a plethora of activities to include familiar board games, such as Connect 4 and Chutes and Ladders, to practicing sight words, listening to and reading great books like Pete the Cat and Russell the Sheep, and a slew of make and take activities including snacks! Be a member of a tribe and learn to work together as a team to win immunity. There will be competitions and games to test your strength and endurance. There will also be interesting things to eat to test your bravery. And of course, you’ll get the chance to play some dodgeball! Laura Ingalls Wilder did and she has written the “Little House” books that have inspired many children to read. So, come along on an adventure that will take you back in time and to many places in the Midwest. The adventure will be filled with stories, cooking, crafts and more that Laura and her family shared from the Big Woods of Wisconsin to the prairies of Kansas, South Dakota and Minnesota! We will play a variety of games such as 7-on-7 and Punt, Pass and Kick. We will also have tournaments between the different groups in the class. Teacher: Mr. Mach Grade: Entering 4-8 Time: 8:00-9:30 Let’s Get Physical - FUNdamental Training Time to shape up and ship out! All forms of training will be used to get a great look into FUNdamental training in weightlifting, plyometrics, and agility training, while employing a variety of games and competitions to utilize your new found skills. An emphasis on CORE lifts as well as movement improvement will be used. Teacher: Mr. Mach Grade: Entering 4-8 Time: 9:30-11:00 Forest Explorers Let’s explore the great outdoors including our school forest! In this class you will be able to track animals, create an experiment using real data with live animals, and identify different species by their tracks and scat. We will also be building bat houses for the school forest and monitoring animals within the school forest using our trail cam. This class is hands on and enjoyable to all students who love science and the outdoors. Teacher: Miss Crabb Grade: Entering 4-8 Time: 8:00-9:30 or 9:30-11:00 Summer School Musical Come and be a part of this year’s show, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. This is a hilarious comedy based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale by the same name. You can get involved in acting, singing, dancing, blocking, lighting, sound, and stage crew. There will be lines and songs to learn, costumes, props, dances, and loads of fun and laughter! There are two mandatory performances, both on Thursday, June 29th at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Join us! Teachers: Mr. & Mrs. Jackson Grade: Entering 5-9 Time: 8:00-9:30 AFTERNOON CLASSES: Just Chillin' Join us on an Arctic Adventure! In this class we will explore the arctic and discover what it’s like to be a polar bear, a beluga whale, or even a puffin! This class will feature many hands-on activities that will make your child more aware of life in the arctic! Teachers: Ms. Harvey and Mrs. Saylor Grade: Entering 1-2 Time: 12:00-2:30 p.m. (Monday-Thursday) STEM Class Join us this summer as we engage in real world, hands on investigations! STEM incorporates science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students will learn to work as team members while planning investigations, conducting experiments and analyzing data. If building fast roller coasters and shelters to withstand natural disasters sounds fun, then STEM class is the place to be! Teachers: Ms. Korslin Grade: Entering 3-5 Time: 12:00-2:30 p.m. (Monday-Thursday) Outdoor Adventures Do you like to ride bikes and go camping? Do you know how to set up a tent or build a campfire? In this class, we will go on a few outdoor adventures, including an overnight camping trip and riding the Elroy/Sparta bike trail. We will also learn how to geocache, using a GPS to find locations and go treasure hunting. We will even build geocaches of our own for around the school campus. Students will need to have a bike to use for this class. Teacher: Mr. Beaver Grade: Entering 4-8 Time: 12:00-2:30 p.m. (Monday-Thursday) EVENING CLASSES: Basketball Camp Classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and will focus on skill development as well as playing games. Dates: June 13-29 Grade: Entering 4-8 Time: 4:00-6:00 p.m. Teachers: Mr. Saylor and Mr. Lowery T-Ball/Ragball Classes will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from the Necedah School. A bus will transport the students between Necedah and New Lisbon, leaving our school at 8:25 and returning at 11:15 a.m. Please indicate which section you would like your child to attend. During the time that students are not involved in swimming lessons, they will be involved in an organized activity supervised by Necedah School employees.
