RESIDENT OF THE MONTH
MARY STRAIGHT
Mary was born 5th July 1928 to parents Olive & Horace Walsh. Mary
was born in Dover Road Northfleet. Mary had 1 sister called Jean,
Jean was 10 years older than Mary.
Mary attended the British School for Girls in Northfleet and then
went to secondary school in Colyer Road.
Mary left school aged 14 and went to Crooks college for shorthand
and typing. Mary stayed at Crooks college until aged almost 16. Mary
then went to work at Martins solicitors in Gravesend as a secretary,
where she remained for 18 and a half years until she married
Norman.
Mary married Norman in 1962 in Northfleet.
Mary and Norman lived in Wrotham Road for over 50 years. Mary
belonged to the Gravesend Folk Dance Club and Norman played the
double bass in the band. Mary & Norman used to go on tours with
the club visiting places like Germany & many local locations. Mary &
Norman had a bungalow in Herne Bay which they used as a holiday
home & visited often. Mary & Norman were both very family
orientated and always enjoyed a family gathering. Mary has many
friends that she still keeps in touch with and who visit when they
can.
Mary has been living at Chestnuts almost a year now and is very
happy here.
