Heart Attack) V.P. Calvin Coolidge take
over.
19241924- J. Edgar Hoover appointed director
of the Bureau of Investigation (later the
F.B.I) would hold that job until 1972.
1925- Scopes trial. Over if teaching
evolution in the classroom is legal.
1925- Nellie Ross- First woman elected
governor of a U.S. State (Wyoming)
1925- First Radio Broadcast of the Grand
Ole Opry
1926- NBC founded. (U.S.’s 1st major
broadcast network)
19271927- May 2020-21 Charles Lindbergh
makes first flight across the Atlantic
Ocean (Long Island to Paris, France)

with sound.
19281928- “Steamboat Willie” opens first picture
to feature Mickey Mouse.

across the Atlantic.
19281928- Herbert Hoover elected President of
the U.S.
The Great Migration: 1.6 million African
Americans migrated from the south to the
north in search of better jobs and better
opportunities
Harlem Renaissance: the cultural, social, and
artistic explosion that took place
in Harlem between the end of World War I and
the middle of the 1930s. During this
period Harlem was a cultural center, drawing
black writers, artists, musicians,
photographers, poets, and scholars
