FPK Stocked Ten Thousand
Parrot Fish Fry in Campus’
Lake
UNAIR NEWS – Academic community Faculty of Fisheries and
Marine Universitas Airlangga stocked about ten thousand parrot
fish fry in campus C lake, Thursday (9/3). The fry stock
program was attended by students, lecturers, and faculty
heads.
An FPK lecturer as well as the program’s manager, Prayogo,
S.Pi. said that this program was a part of the university
effort in optimizing the campus’ artificial lake’s function.
“This is one of our manageable asset. We can use this place as
a recreation site, an education site and our students’
practical work site,” he explained.
Prayogo also said that fry stocking was a routine agenda for
FPK. Before the parrot fish, Prayogo and his team had stocked
koi, freshwater carp, gold fish, and after this they are going
to stock milkfish.
“We are stocking quite big fry. Before this, we stocked small
fry, and they were eaten by bigger fish,” added Prayogo.
Apart from stocking, while waiting for harvest time, Prayogo
emphasized that they were going to monitor water quality
regularly, how the fish grow, and their density. This was for
the best harvest.
“This is our project, and we have to be responsible for it. We
have to work hard to maintain the water quality. Fish are
living organism. They have the potential to suffer from
disease,” he asserted.
“When all run well, our lake will have extra point, in
addition to recreation and education site, we can also use it
to improve our society’s nutrition and all of us in this
campus,” he added.
This time, as many as ten thousand 5-10 cm parrot fish fry
were stocked in the lake in front of UNAIR Management Office.
The artificial lake which is located in campus C Universitas
Airlangga indeed has multiple functions. Apart from
functioning as rainwater absorber and recreation site, the
lake is also used as education means and one of practice sites
for the students of Fisheries and Marine.
