FPK Stocked Ten Thousand Parrot Fish Fry in Campus’ Lake UNAIR NEWS – Academic community Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Universitas Airlangga stocked about ten thousand parrot fish fry in campus C lake, Thursday (9/3). The fry stock program was attended by students, lecturers, and faculty heads. An FPK lecturer as well as the program’s manager, Prayogo, S.Pi. said that this program was a part of the university effort in optimizing the campus’ artificial lake’s function. “This is one of our manageable asset. We can use this place as a recreation site, an education site and our students’ practical work site,” he explained. Prayogo also said that fry stocking was a routine agenda for FPK. Before the parrot fish, Prayogo and his team had stocked koi, freshwater carp, gold fish, and after this they are going to stock milkfish. “We are stocking quite big fry. Before this, we stocked small fry, and they were eaten by bigger fish,” added Prayogo. Apart from stocking, while waiting for harvest time, Prayogo emphasized that they were going to monitor water quality regularly, how the fish grow, and their density. This was for the best harvest. “This is our project, and we have to be responsible for it. We have to work hard to maintain the water quality. Fish are living organism. They have the potential to suffer from disease,” he asserted. “When all run well, our lake will have extra point, in addition to recreation and education site, we can also use it to improve our society’s nutrition and all of us in this campus,” he added. This time, as many as ten thousand 5-10 cm parrot fish fry were stocked in the lake in front of UNAIR Management Office. The artificial lake which is located in campus C Universitas Airlangga indeed has multiple functions. Apart from functioning as rainwater absorber and recreation site, the lake is also used as education means and one of practice sites for the students of Fisheries and Marine.
