ProfeLAC GOLD
Premium Calf Milk Replacer + Bovatec
“WORTH REARING, WORTH ProfeLAC.”
ProfeLAC GOLD Premium Calf Milk Replacer +
Bovatec is recommended as a milk replacer for calves
from three (3) days of age at which stage the calf will
have received optimum benefit from colostrum – an
essential start to life.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
ProfeLAC GOLD has been blended from full cream
dairy ingredients and nutritional additives and does
NOT contain Tallow or any Restricted Animal Materials.
It forms a curd (clot) in the abomasum to aid casein
digestion.
ProfeLAC GOLD is a fully instantised, easy mixing
milk feed designed for: rearing quality dairy heifer
replacements; use with automatic calf feeders; and
intensive calf rearing operations – situations where the
risk of calf disease is generally high.
ProfeLAC GOLD also contains two additives to
improve body weight gain and calf health:
1. Bovatec® a broad-spectrum anticoccidial for
improved feed efficiency and increased rate of weight
gain and for the control and prevention of coccidia
infections frequently associated with weaning. Bovatec
stimulates calf appetite to improve rumen development
and solid feed intake.
WITHHOLDING PERIODS - NIL
2. BioPAK® GOLD a specific blend of Host Specific
Probiotics - providing live (viable), naturally occurring
micro-organisms; acidifiers; and botanical extracts as
an aid to digestion and to improve gut health. Also
contains milk-soluble essential Vitamins and Organic*
Trace Minerals for optimum calf nutrition.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS:
Dissolve the required quantity of ProfeLAC GOLD
powder in half the required volume of warm water
(40°C) and stir thoroughly until dissolved. Then add
the remaining water (warm or cold) and stir thoroughly
to ensure a homogenous mix. The reconstituted milk
can be given to the calf immediately. The required
drinking temperature is 40°C (body temperature).
ProfeLAC GOLD has been formulated to allow powder
mixing, and feeding of reconstituted milk, at lower
temperatures than those recommended above.
RESTRAINTS:
ONLY FOR USE in feeds for calves.
Feed Only as Directed. Use of milk additives that
contain ionophores (lasalocid or monensin) should be
avoided – excessive consumption of ionophores may
result in toxicity in young animals.
PRECAUTIONS:
NOT TO BE FED to dogs, horses or other equine
species. Accidental consumption of lasalocid or
monensin medicated feed should be avoided.
May prove fatal if fed to equids.
FEEDING OTHER INFANT ANIMALS:
This milk replacer has been specifically formulated
for calves but is also suitable for replacement
lambs and kids on dairy sheep and dairy goat
farms (mix at 100-120g/L). Seek veterinary advice to
verify use in other species.
For best results in orphan lambs, kids, crias, piglets,
ponies and pups, select ProfeLAC SHEPHERD.
For best results in foals, select ProfeLAC SILVER.

ProfeLAC CALF REARING PROGRAM:
FEEDING CALVES:
1.
Calves should be fed at least 500g (375g for smaller breeds)
of ProfeLAC GOLD powder daily to ensure maintenance
requirements and modest growth targets are met re Table 1.

BioSecurity - Calf disease prevention starts with good
hygiene and disinfection management. Thoroughly clean
and disinfect pens, sheds and shelters with VirKon® S
(diluted 1:100 with water) between batches and all feeding
equipment between feeds. Maintain pen/shed hygiene with
a weekly application of VirKon® S or NaturClean™.
Colostrum Feeding - Within the first 12 hours of life, calves
must receive 10% of their body weight of first colostrum
(larger breeds require 4-5L - smaller breeds require 2-3L).
Use BioStart CALF (rennet additive) to aid colostrum and
milk digestion efficiency. Give newborns 2mL initial dose
with first colostrum (aids IgG uptake) then 1mL per head per
feed for the first 3 weeks.
Weak or ‘At Risk’ calves that won’t suckle will benefit from
additional energy. Administer 15mL of ProfeSTART Energy
Plus PASTE on consecutive days to boost energy levels
and aid appetite. (Available Autumn 2011).
After 24 hours of life, administer 5mL of ProfeSTART PROBiotic GEL to establish the intestinal microflora in newborn
calves.
Post colostrum feeding - ensure calves receive at least
500g of ProfeLAC GOLD each day (375g for smaller
breeds). For best results, and to avoid gastric discomfort,
offer calves a 50:50 blend of colostrum and ProfeLAC
GOLD for 3 days prior to complete milk replacer feeding.
When calves are not receiving ProfeLAC GOLD supplement daily milk with FortiMILK GOLD for safe and
effective Coccidia prevention and control.
To aid digestion, gut health and natural production,
supplement the milk in the first weeks of life with BioCalf
Prebiotic Food (purified oligosaccharide nutrient) at
4g/10kg BWT/calf/day.
If scours or calf morbidity occurs offer Bovelyte, to replace
electrolytes and reverse dehydration, in between milk feeds
for 2 days.
Add ProfeSTART PRO-Biotic POWDER to the milk at 10g
per calf per day for 10 days to aid intestinal microbial
balance and digestion. If scours persist beyond 2 days seek veterinary assistance.
Calves should be fed warm liquid feed during the first 3
weeks of life. Once daily feeding can be introduced from 14
days of age. Milk solids can be increased in cold weather to
maintain calf health and welfare. For every 5°C drop in
temperature, feed an extra 35-50g of powder /calf/day.
Fresh and good quality solid feed (calf starter) or muesli
can be fed free choice from day 4 of life to aid rumen wall
development.
Calves should be allowed access to some straw or a
measured amount of hay (eg via hay feeder). Ensure the
quantity of straw/hay provided or consumed does not
interfere with calf starter intake.
Calves must have access to fresh clean water at all times to
maintain hydration status and to stimulate calf starter intake.
Good quality hay should be available free choice when calf
starter intake exceeds 500g/day (individual pens) or
800g/day (group housing). Introduction of roughage at this
point enables enlargement of the rumen.
Weaning - Calves can be weaned when consumption of
calf starter feed reaches 1kg/day over 3 consecutive days.
Abrupt Weaning - reduce milk intake by 50% and feed
once daily for one whole week then stop milk feeding
altogether.
Gradual Weaning - reduce daily milk intake by 0.5-1.0L for
week one then reduce milk intake by another 0.5-1.0L for
week two, and so on until milk feeding is finished.
Post Weaning - To avoid weight checks at weaning, drench
with 10-15mL BioStart RUMINANT and ensure access to
calf starter feed for another 3 weeks (minimum).
