1. Watch Totem Pole Powerpoints. Sketch ideas for your sculpture in your sketchbook.
Another totem image is on page 250 of Art Talk. Check any Native arts books.
2. Decide which animal you would like to create and find images of it.
3. Draw two different views of your chosen totem animal:
a. frontal view
b. profile view
4. For homework, bring in something or draw a picture of something that symbolizes you or family.
Your symbol may not be a famous logo or famous artwork, however, if you wanted show how much
your family enjoys the show American Idol, you could use a non-famous symbol for it, such as a microphone. Be creative! Your teacher's example:
mushrooms: my father shows his love by giving me canned mushrooms.
You may not use mushrooms for your symbol. Share your symbol and draw it with your totem animal.
