Sunny Day Care & Montessori 33200 Slocum (248) 476-1414 Farmington, MI 48336 www.sunnydaycare.com Winter update from Sue Brrrrr! It’s cold outside! Despite there being little snow so far, the chilly air is here to stay! And with it came the start of a brand new year! 2012 marks the 20th Anniversary of Sunny Day Care being in business! We’re planning to celebrate with a summer family picnic/potluck here, so stay tuned as we get the details worked out. Sunny Day Care is what it is because of the families it serves and it has been a joy to watch your children grow over the last 20 years. I cannot thank you enough for your patronage and support! Just before the holiday break, we received news that one of our 3 year olds, Claire Kelly, had a brain tumor. After under- going a lengthy surgery to remove the mass, the news was good: the mass was benign! While Claire has begun therapy, it may be a long road. She just took her first steps since surgery, on Dec. 19. Miss Molly, Claire’s Aunt, has Halloween Party! NEWSLETTER been bringing in Claire’s 6 month old sister, Olivia when Claire has therapy. I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers for Claire and the Kelly family during this scary time. Your encouragement has meant the world to Heidi and Andrew. To help support them, please see my fundraiser on page 3. Heidi had to take a leave of absence from the salon and the medical bills are starting to come in. Please help if you can! Thanks! When I was 15 years old, my little sister Kathy underwent two brain tumor surgeries. I saw how stressful this was on my mom (she had 6 kids!), and understood the importance of her spending as much time with Kathy as possible, and easing her discomfort when she could. Claire. Anything you buy on my table, and/or through my 31 Gifts website, at full price, will be a 50% donation to Claire. The winter catalog ends January 31 and a new Spring catalog will be available for February. Please think about some gifts you need. With classics like “Jingle Bell Rock” & “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” it was a night of fun and laughs that we hope you enjoyed as much as the kids! Winter 2012 On Dec. 19th we welcomed Mrs. Grekin (former Hillel Day School librarian and grandmother to two of our children) to SDC to share a special “Hanukkah Circle Time” with the children and learn about the Festival of Lights. She read a special Hanukkah story book, lit the menorah, and gave each child a toy dreidel to play with and practice spinning. Thank you for coming to SDC Mrs. Grekin to talk about Hanukkah! Page 3 Meet the We are blessed with a wonderful, loving staff whose average time working with Sunny Day Care children is now over ten years. Each newsletter we will introduce to a few of our staff members sharing a little bit about them. For this edition we give you Miss Laura and Miss Stephanie, our blessed and patient teachers in the 2 year room. Staff! Miss Laura: Miss Laura has been with Sunny Day Care since 2005 and has always been one of our special Toddler Room teachers. The children love “Miss Wawa” and enjoy her Circle Time: animal sounds, learning colors, numbers and days of the week. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, and married Roger Wobig (former high school classmate!) in 2010. Her daughter, Ashley, is making a career out of soccer playing for Churchill High School and Livonia travel teams. Miss Laura enjoys reading, family movie nights and being a life-time soccer mom. Miss Stephanie: Miss Stephanie began assisting the preschool children after her classes at Farmington High School in 2006. After graduation, she joined Sunny Day Care full-time and has been a teacher in the Toddler/Two room ever since. Growing up with a brother who is deaf, Stephanie is quite the sign language expert and enjoys teaching us the basics. She is especially good with our toddlers and a pro at helping them begin the adventures of potty-training in a calm way that makes it a non-threatening experience. She enjoys creating art projects and reading books to the children, and is also great at teaching action songs at Circle Time using puppets. Her hobbies include reading, camping, bowling, cooking and attending Red Wing games! Just a Reminder Emily & Sue are always open! Emily is your Scentsy consultant for all your special scent needs.
