This Week’s Highlights
Reading Workshop:
Grammar: We are learning about nouns: singular, plural
and proper forms. We are also learning about synonyms,
antonyms, verbs (past, present) and multiple meaning
words. We will learn about commas in a series.
Reading Comprehension Strategy:
As we read, we are visualizing, asking questions, making
connections, stopping to think along the way, inferring
and listening for our mistakes. We can retell a story
with details.
Please register for the Daves Creek Dolphin Dash. You can
register early or on the day of. Contact Joey Garner for
information. See below from the PE department:
Writing Workshop:
We know the conventions in writing: capitals, periods.
We know that every sentence has a who and a what. We
are working on adding details into our writing,
independently writing a response to literature and an
informational piece. We are learning how to write to
persuade.
“Friday April 13th is the last day of early registration for our
First annual 5k. After Friday, there will be no t-shirts for
late registers. We have about 30 signed up to run right
now – we want at least 100”
Math:
We are learning about bigger numbers. We are learning
about place value, comparing numbers and
addition/subtraction of 2 digit numbers (using money).
Parents that walk to school to pick up their children
shouldn’t bring any dogs due to student safety.

Wild America: We learning about plants and animals. Ask
your student about the needs and parts of a plant.

kids reading! Entice young readers to open a book,
engage their interest, and invite them into the story. You
are free to use these booktalks in a live verbal
presentation without express permission or
acknowledgement. You may either quote them word-forword, or excerpt or adapt them any way you like. Be
creative - make these booktalks your own and add them
to your repertoire!

Spelling Review Rules
When to use c or k:
When you hear a /k/ sound at the beginning of a
word, it is usually spelled with a ‘c’ unless it is
followed by ‘e’ ‘i’ or ‘y’ (key, kite, camp, coil, cat)
When to use /k/ at the end of a word:

C sounds like s afteri -> city, circus, circle, cinnamon
y -> cycle, cylinder, fancy
e -> race, ice, face

1 syllable, 1 short vowel: -ck (snack, trick, pack)
1 syllable, consonant or vowel team: -k (park, stork,
milk)
