In exercise of the powers vested in me by virtue of my appointment
by the Governor as Competent Authority for the purposes of
Regulation 61 as set out in the First Schedule to the Supplies and
Services (T ransitional Powers) (Cyprus) Order, 1946, I do hereby order
that the Defence (Returns of Stocks of Ginned Cotton) Order, 1942,
be revoked, without prejudice to anything done or left undonethereunder.

In exercise of the powers vested in me by virtue of my appointment
bv the Governor as Competent Authority for the purposes of Defence
Reaulatbn 61 as set out in the First Schedule to the Supplies and Services
transitional Powers) (Cyprus) Order 1946 I hereby order as & U ™ 1. T his Order may be cited as the Defence (Control of Potatoes)
Order, 1947.

"Authorized purchaser" means any person or body oi persons
whom I may appoint as such.

" Potatoes " means any potatoes produced m the areas ol tlie
villages referred to in the schedule hereto.

'" Producer " means any person who has grown potatoes for the
1947 summer crop and includes a part owner and any person having
a share or interest in such potatoes.
3. From and after the 15th August, 194:7, no person shall purchase any
potatoes in the villages referred to in the schedule hereto save under a
written permit issued by me or any person authorized by me on that
behalf.
4. Save under a written permit issued by me or any person authorized
by me on that behalf, from and after the 15th August, 1947, no producer
shall sell any potatoes save to an authorized purchaser.
5. Erom and after the 15th August, 1947,no person shall, save under
a written permit issued by me or any person authorized by me on that
behalf remove, transport or cause or suffer to be removed or transported
any potatoes from the village areas referred to in the schedule hereto.
6. No person who is not a producer shall have in his possession or under
his control any potatoes in excess of the normal requirements of his
household, save under a written permit issued by me or by any person
authorized by me on that behalf.
7. Every person shall permit such person as I may authorize in writing
in that behalf to enter upon and inspect his premises for the purpose of
ascertaining whether the provisions of this Order have been or are being
complied with.
8. Any person who acts in contravention of, or fails to comply with,
any of the provisions of this Order, shallbe liable to the penalties prescribed
in the Defence Regulations as set out in the First Schedule to the Supplies
and Services (Transitional Powers) (Cyprus) Order, 1946.
9. Nothing contained in this Order shall apply to any potatoes in the
possession of or under the control of the Government.
