ART DISPLAYS
During our art lessons last week, we learned all
about the history of each one of the artist styles
and practised creating them using the specific
techniques and resources needed.
In lesson one, we learned all about Pointillism.
The concept of pointillism is to create a solid
space of colour by using dots of two or more
colours in an area. When we use this technique,
we are mixing colours by placing two colours
side by side.
In our second lesson, we learned all about Pop Art. Short for Popular Art, the Pop Art
movement used common everyday objects, such as billboards, comic strips, magazine
advertisements, famous faces and supermarket products. It was influenced by advertising
and comic strips, so it used bright bold and flat colours, along with thick black lines.
In lesson three, we learned all about Fauvism. Fauvism is a movement in modern French
painting. It uses very bold, vivid, pure colours. The Fauves believed that colour and a strong
pattern were more important than being realistic. We used oil pastels and smudged them to
create the desired blending effect.

Finally, in lesson four, we learned all about Impressionism. Impressionism is an art movement and style of
painting that started in France during the 1860s. It
includes visible brush strokes, creating a sense of movement. We used paint and multiple sizes of paint brushes
to create these patterns.
 20/07—INSET Day
After learning about and practising all four styles, in
lesson five we combined them all in one drawing, to
create our beautiful pieces of artwork that are now
displayed in our classroom.

“We are anxious that your child benefits from a wholesome and appetising school lunch. Please therefore ensure that you provide the
correct payment in advance i.e. at the start of the school week.
Children will not be provided with a school meal unless it is paid for, except those entitled to Free School Meals.

All dinner money must be received in school on a Monday, of the first day back in school after an INSET or
holiday. The money received is paid into a lunch bank account system and will remain there showing as a credit until the
pupil has a school meal. Parents can pay for a whole term in advance if they so wish, and this money will also remain as a
credit on the system, diminishing with each school meal that the pupil has. If your child is absent from school on holiday or
sickness and you have paid in advance, the money will remain as a credit under your child’s account.
Can we ask those parents who send in money randomly throughout the week to please follow the above information.
TY HAFAN SUPER HERO DAY
As part of Children’s Hospice Week, Coed Hirwaun will be supporting Ty Hafan by
holding a ‘Fancy Dress Friday’ on 22nd May 2015. Pupils can either come to school
in non-uniform or come dressed as their favourite superhero.
We are asking for a donation of £1.00, which should be placed
in an envelope marked Ty Hafan. All monies collected will be sent to the charity and we will let you
know how much was raised in the first issue of the school’s newsletter after the half term holiday.
We thank you for your support.
PET CLUB
We had a special guest this week in Pet Club. Jack the
Jack Russell was very well behaved for a fourteen year
old dog (seventy in human years). George allowed us all
to pat and tickle his pet dog. We really enjoyed it!!
