The learner will be given an opportunity to assess their own fitness against specific criteria and to develop and refine a personal programme of training to help them achieve and maintain the levels of fitness necessary for admission to their chosen uniformed service. Unit 02 Physical fitness for the uniformed services(J/505/9134) Learning outcome 1 3 Unit 02 Physical fitness for the uniformed services (J/505/9134) Army fitness test LE 1.1 Identify physical fitness tests used in the recruitment process by a specific uniformed service The Army’s fitness test is carried out at the Army Assessment Centre. The exact standards you need to meet will depend on the unit you intend to join and your job. The tests check both strength and stamina. Static lift This means having to lift a power bag and place it on a surface at 1.45m. M P Jerry can test This means you will need to carry a pair of 20kg water containers over a course (between 30-120m). 2.4km (1.5 mile) run This requires you to complete a timed run. The course is on level ground and has a good surface. Royal Navy fitness test A The Royal Navy’s fitness test, assuming you have passed your medical and eye tests, requires you to complete a 2.4km run on a treadmill. The exact times that you need to meet will depend on your age and gender. They will also differ if you are applying to become a diver or a member of the Royal Marines. Royal Air Force fitness test S The Royal Air Force’s fitness test is similar to the Royal Navy one and consists of a 2.4km (1.5 mile) run. The run takes place on a treadmill. You will also need to complete a number of press ups and sit ups to a stated standard. The fitness tests that you will have to perform as part of the recruitment process are all designed to accurately measure specific components of fitness. They are tried and tested. This means that they should produce the same results for an individual whatever the place or time. It is important to remember that there are variables that can affect the outcome of any fitness test: Time of day. Weather and environment. Accuracy of the measurements. How hydrated you are and how long it is since you last ate. Your current health. Whether or not you are taking medication.
