Modesto Junior College General Information What makes Modesto Junior College so special? Well… it is a combination of things. MJC has an outstanding reputation based on a 95-year tradition of offering educational excellence. At our college students receive a high quality education at a fraction of the cost of attending most fouryear institutions. You can take the same undergraduate college courses and earn the same transferable units without sacrificing educational quality. This makes MJC a great educational value! MJC has top-notch faculty. Unlike four-year universities, our professors are not required to publish or do research, (although many of our faculty are published authors.) Their primary focus is teaching! The professors at MJC that teach transferable college courses all have a minimum of a master’s degree in their area of instruction. Many of them have a doctoral degree as well. MJC has a huge selection of classes to choose from each semester. Students can achieve an associate degree or prepare for transfer in over 50 areas of study! The average class sizes at MJC are smaller than these similar classes at most public universities and rival the class sizes of many expensive private college. What does this mean for our students? It means lots of class choices and plenty of personalized attention from professors that know students by name. Additionally, MJC is committed to student success and backs up this commitment with a full range of support services to help ensure that students achieve their goals. Counselors, financial aid, a library with two large computer labs, a tutoring center and a career development and transfer center are just some of the student support services available. So, what makes MJC special? It’s a tremendous combination of excellent educational programs, fantastic faculty, and super support services - all offered to a wide range of students at an affordable price! Enrollment Services The Enrollment Services Office is responsible for the admission of new and returning students to the college and the enrollment of all students into MJC credit and non-credit courses. The Associated Students of Modesto Junior College (ASMJC) is a body of students, by the students, and most importantly for the students. ASMJC will address all student concerns on campus. ASMJC will be a voice in all decisions made on campus that may affect the student body. Research shows that students who are involved with one another around social and academic topics are more likely to develop a sense of institutional commitment. This experience allows them to gain knowledge in areas outside of the classroom while strengthening their leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills.
