To me, the best Lama
Team event was PI Day. PI
Day is based upon the
irrational number, and since
most people know it by 3.14, PI
Day is held on March 14.
Students are asked to bring
pie for everybody to eat once
all of the pi activities in the
core classed are done- the
more pi there is, the more
pieces everybody gets.
Everybody had to memorize at
least 35 numbers of pi after
the decimal, without messing
up, for a grade. The Top 20
people get pie ala mode- ice
cream with their pie slices.
This year, the highest amount
of numbers afmemorized was
239. Everybody had the most
fun while eating the pies.
PI is most commonly
known as the number 3.14. It
is an irrational number, which
means that it never ends. PI
was discovered when the
greeks mostly got 3.14 when
they divided the circumference
of the diameter.
Pies are very tasty
treats, sold almost everywhere
in the country. In my opinion,
pies are the opposite of cakes.
Pies usually have a hardened
crust with a filling covering
that crust. One of my favorite
pies is the chocolate haupia pie
from Ted's Bakery.
One of the pie that we had on pie day
had a diameter of 24 inches, or two feet.
What is the circumference of the circle?
The area? Round to the nearest tenth if
needed.

length of going across
the surface of the circle
from one side to the
other. In this case the
diameter is 24 inches.
To find the area of a
circle you must use the
formula at the top of the
page.
Radius is half of the
diameter. The diameter in
this case is 24 inches.
Half of that is 12 inches,
or one foot.
