CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Malaria being a threatening disease in our country, there is a great need for the health
sector and other sectors to work tireless to ensure that this problem is reduced and even
try to eradicate it through different measures. Comparing to other diseases, malaria

leading in terms of mortality and morbidity hence there was a great need to reach the
mentioned community to give health education about it.
DIFFICULTIES
However much I tried to reach many people in the community, few difficulties were
identified such as. Lack of means of transport to the interior part of the community to
ensure that the entire community is enriched by the education, cultural beliefs was also
one of the difficulty that was realized e.g. some people use local treatment for malaria
instead of modern drugs hence end up in complicating malaria, some time language
burrier was a big problem there fore it required an interpreter to help in translating Swahili
to the indigenous (sukuma)
ASSESSMENT NEEDS
1. People need to be educated on the disadvantage of using local treatment of malaria
2. people should also be helped to construct permanent trench for draining stagnant
water around their homes so as to destroy the breeding sites for mosquitoes
because the area is flat and cannot drain water easily
ACHIEVEMENTS
Majority of people in the community were able to acquire knowledge about malaria
through the discussion made by sayusayu dispensary staff, it was agreed that school
health programmes should start so as to help in detecting other diseases and teach the
preventive measures to the community to improve in the promotion of health
