This term Year 2 will be joining the Owl and the Pussy cat on a
fabulous learning adventure. Our topic lessons will be based on
the following key learning objectives:
 I can paint a picture from the book “The Owl and the
Pussycat”
 I can use a range of tools/media to draw a cat and an owl
 I can identify honey combs and understand how and why
they are made I understand the importance of pollination
 I understand the life cycle of a bee
Children will be given spellings every Friday to
practise and will be tested on a Thursday. Please
encourage your child to practise their spellings at
home.
Home Learning Project:
This term Year 2 will be joining the Owl and the Pussycat on a
fabulous learning adventure – developing our sketching skills,
exploring poetic language, researching night life, and developing
an environmental awareness.
We will be continuing to develop our phonics and
grammar skills through Read, Write Inc.
Maths:
In our maths learning, we will be using and
developing our maths skills and confidence by:
 Solving place value problems involving
money
 Reading scales and working with
different capacities
 Exploring the properties of 2D and 3D
shapes
 Exploring reflective symmetry through
Islamic artwork
 Continuing to develop our problem
solving and reasoning skills,
particularly in addition and subtraction
 Developing our mental maths skills and
recall of maths facts through our maths

On Thursday 5 March 2015 we will be celebrating
World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite
character and explore what stories are special to me
and explain how they make me feel.
Music:
This term in music we will be exploring instruments
and symbols.
We will be:
 Identifying and using instruments in songs
 Explore how symbols can be used to
represent vocal sounds
 Explore how symbols can be used to
represent instrumental sounds
PSHE:
This term in PSHE we will be developing our Core
Learning Skill “Knowing me, knowing you”. The “I
can statements” we will be working towards are:

RE:
We will be exploring the question “Why are some stories special?”
Learning Objectives:
 Explore our key question ‘Why are some stories special?’
 Explore a Jewish story and discuss how the story makes
Jews feel, think and behave
 Explore the Christian story ‘The Last Supper’ and discuss
how the story makes Christians feel, think and behave
 Identify special stories in different faiths and describe how it
makes them think and behave
 Understand what stories are special to me and explain how
they make me feel
We will also be having a whole school RE week and will be focusing
on the Islamic faith. This will include a visit to a mosque.
Our Value for Life we will be exploring this term is friendship.
PE:
We will be developing key skills in PE this term,
with a focus on dance and learning how to play
football.
The key skills children will be developing are:

This term in our computing lessons, Year 2 are
going to be learning all about researching
