In the late 1800s, Thomas Edison, an inventor, set up a laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. The brilliant Thomas Edison invented many things that we still use today. One of his most important inventions that we still appreciate today was the phonograph, the very first music player. The phonograph had a needle that scratched grooves on a record. Each groove on the record made a certain sound that was made louder by something that Thomas Edison looked like the bell of horn. When the record was spun and the needle went over the groves quickly, the phonograph produced music that people could listen to. The quality of the music was very low compared to our digital music today, but it did allow people to enjoy music in their own home for the very first time. This invention had a major impact on our society, and now everyone enjoys listening to MP3s, cds, and the radio. Thanks Thomas Edison! Thomas Edison with his phonograph
