Represent division of a unit fraction by a whole number and the division of a
whole number by a unit fraction such as 1/3 ÷ 7 and 7 ÷ 1/3 using objects and
pictorial models, including area models. (5.3J)
Divide whole numbers by unit fractions and unit fractions by whole numbers.

Lesson 1: use a pictorial representation and write an equation to describe fractions that are multiples of unit
fractions.
Lesson 2: use an area model to represent and solve a problem involving multiplication of a fraction and a whole
number.
Lesson 3: use two methods for multiplying fractions and whole numbers, ending in mixed-number products.
Lesson 4: divide a whole number by a fraction using a model and by suing reciprocals.
Lesson 5: use models and number lines to divide unit fractions by whole numbers.
Lesson 6: use both an area model and multiplication to divide a whole number by a unit fraction.
Lesson 7: solve problems that require them to perform multiple steps and use various strategies.
