NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 09.19.13 CONTACT: PHONE: Betsy Heck 314.647.0600 x 208 Booksource Sends Classroom Libraries to Moore, OK & Newtown, CT St. Louis, MO: Booksource and 44 publishers* have joined together to donate more than 8,500 books to the two elementary schools destroyed by tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma in May 2013 and to Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. th Each of the 38 classrooms from Kindergarten through 6 grade in Briarwood Elementary School and Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, OK will receive more than 150 new books – totaling more than 5,000 books – along with free book bins to store the books. More than 3,500 books are being donated to the relocated students and teachers of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. These books will be used for an elementary bookroom that are available to all students in the school. “It is our honor and privilege to help these schools get back on their feet after the tragedies they’ve suffered in their communities,” said Gary Jaffe, CEO of GL group, parent company of Booksource. “We’re passionate about reading and education. Maya Angelou once said ‘Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.’ We couldn’t agree more, and we hope this donation will get books back in the hands of the children and help rebuild the reading programs in Moore and Newtown.” Trucks are scheduled to leave the Booksource warehouse on Macklind Avenue in St. Louis on Friday, September 20, 2013 for Moore, OK and Newtown, CT; the books are expected to arrive at their th th respective locations by Tuesday or Wednesday, September 24 or 25 .
