Booksource Sends Classroom Libraries to
Moore, OK & Newtown, CT
St. Louis, MO: Booksource and 44 publishers* have joined together to donate more than 8,500
books to the two elementary schools destroyed by tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma in May 2013 and
to Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.
th
Each of the 38 classrooms from Kindergarten through 6 grade in Briarwood Elementary School and
Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, OK will receive more than 150 new books – totaling more
than 5,000 books – along with free book bins to store the books.
More than 3,500 books are being donated to the relocated students and teachers of Sandy Hook
Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. These books will be used for an elementary bookroom that
are available to all students in the school.
“It is our honor and privilege to help these schools get back on their feet after the tragedies they’ve
suffered in their communities,” said Gary Jaffe, CEO of GL group, parent company of Booksource.
“We’re passionate about reading and education. Maya Angelou once said ‘Any book that helps a
child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for
him.’ We couldn’t agree more, and we hope this donation will get books back in the hands of the
children and help rebuild the reading programs in Moore and Newtown.”
Trucks are scheduled to leave the Booksource warehouse on Macklind Avenue in St. Louis on Friday,
September 20, 2013 for Moore, OK and Newtown, CT; the books are expected to arrive at their
th
th
respective locations by Tuesday or Wednesday, September 24 or 25 . Representatives from
Booksource will head to Moore next week to help teachers unpack and inventory all of their books.
