We welcome Guests and New Members: Ralph Bonser & Kathleen Sisac; Shon Birch, from Off-Road Bike group. Please let Steve Chapel know if you are not receiving the Newsletter. The Minutes for February stand as printed unless there are corrections. Steve Chapel introduced Shon Birch, from the Off-Road Bike group. Shon took the floor and presented his request for Aid Station volunteers from WSATVA to man Aid Stations on May 20th & 21st. He asked for eight volunteers each day. After Shon made his request, Steve said we would discuss his proposal later in the meeting and let him know. Shon thanked our Club and left. TREASURER’S REPORT: Conrad gave the Treasurers Report listing deposits and checks since February 2017. 2 April ~ 2017 SARC: Ken Sanders reported on two call-outs: One was on the Uncompahgre Feb. 19th resulting in several people being rescued and transported to Grand Junction. The other callout was a ‘stand down’. Ken also reported on the Team Training held last week which was a success. TRAILS: Tom Derryberry reminded everyone to report ‘trash pickup’ to either Tom or Steve. The hours you report are from when you leave home until you return home. These hours are turned into the BLM, which in turn, can use them to gain grant funding. The BLM ‘Paint the Rocks’ project is scheduled March 21st, 9 a.m. at the Bang’s Canyon parking lot. Also, Tom reminded us of the Ed Ruland Desert Cleanup scheduled April 15th (weather permitting) with the location yet to be determined. SAFARI: Steve reported on the ride March 12th into the Utah desert. There were 31 machines on this ride. Steve said there were some safety issues and went on to state that this evenings Safety presentation would touch on some of those issues. The next ride is Saturday March 18th west of De Beque. Jim Draper will lead a ride to Rabbit Valley March 25th. Meet at the staging area south of the Rabbit Valley exit at I-70 interchange at 9:30 am. Steve said there is also a ride April 1st (weather permitting) from Glade Park into Utah. There may be a ride in Moab, Utah in May. This would be for Advanced Riders only. More details later. May 13th will be a ride to Barrel Springs area. More details later. We also need ride leaders. Contact Steve with your willingness to help. SAFETY: Larry Bullard presented the ‘do’s and don’ts’ of trail rides. You are responsible for the person behind you. If you come to a ‘fork in the road’, wait there until the person behind you ‘sees’ you and waves. This way he will know which ‘fork’ to take. It is okay to ‘drop back’ sufficient to avoid eating dust, but stay close enough to ensure the group stays together. Larry also presented a ‘hive’ of information on Bees!!!! He distributed a handout showing which species of bees are common to our area and what to do if you are stung by a bee. OLD BUSINESS: Steve addressed the membership on the issue of insurance for the Club. COHVCO has been heavily involved in promoting SB 17-100, a Bill in the Colorado Legislature to help non-profit groups like ourselves resolve the question of insurance. Steve asked if the Club would like to make a donation of about $500 over and above our yearly dues to help COHVCO with the expenses of promoting this Bill. Steve asked for discussion and then a Motion to approve the payment of the $500. After the discussion, Jon Swanson made a motion to approve and Paul Frey seconded the Motion. The vote was unanimous. Steve also related how Conrad and Mary Tucker became involved in the process of ‘assisting’ the passage of the Bill by attending two Hearings on the Bill, one each in the Senate and House. Conrad addressed the Committee in both Houses of Colorado. Thank You Mary and Conrad for your assistance in this matter. COHVCO will host Trail Training in May. They will pay for two of our members to attend this training. Steve asked for discussion and a Motion for the Club to pay for the additional 2-4 members. After discussion, Paul Frey moved to pay the cost of the additional members and Larry Jones seconded. Motion passed. 3 April ~ 2017 Regarding Summer BBQ’s in Lincoln Park: Stephanie and Christopher Jackson graciously accepted the position of ‘logistics people’ to gather the materials for the BBQs. What is still needed are ‘cooks’ to cook the hot dogs, hamburgers, and brats. Please volunteer your services. (You will get a ‘free meal’ out of it!!!!) If no one volunteers to cook, we will not have BBQ’s at the Park! So please ‘step up to the grill’ and volunteer! Cook volunteers are also needed at the Work Parties at High Tower and Vega. Ken Sanders has shirts for sale. Paul Frey has whip flags for sale The ‘deadline’ for placing items for sale in Newsletter is around the 5th of each month. Send details to Newsletter Editor Kathie Iles. Next Club meeting April 19, 2017 at the Posse Building, at 7:30 pm, 25 Road and F ½ Road. Refreshments for next meeting to be supplied by Stephanie Jackson and Jim Martin. The 'final step' would be for the Governor to 'sign' the Bill. COHVCO said they would 'let me and Mary know' when the Signing is to occur so we can 'attend the Signing'. THE ANNUAL ED RULAND MEMORIAL DESERT CLEAN-UP This annual desert clean-up will take place on Saturday, April 15th (weather permitting). It will be out 25 Road again and we will stage less than a mile past the canal. Official start time is 9 am which means you should be there earlier to get unloaded, ready and then partake in some of the breakfast refreshments provided by Marilyn Ruland. The club will provide water, orange juice and trash bags. Bring gloves, ATVs/UTVs & small trailers to haul junk back to the dumpsters. Large items can be drug behind your machine while smaller items can be bagged and left for one of the people with a trailer to haul back. There will be a second dumpster staged about a mile farther out in the desert. Most of the trash is in the gullies or behind hills and the farther you go the more there is. Watch for the new club trailer and come join us as it only takes about half a day to fill up the dumpsters. RABBIT VALLEY RIDE The Rabbit Valley ride had about 15 riders.
