MCHL News 2 The Teacher’s Corner Room 10 As we come to the month of March, our toddlers are looking forward to warmer weather. It’s exciting to see them so happy to be outside. During this time of the year we see more social relationships develop amongst the children. They are now familiar and comfortable with their classmates. As their verbal skills develop, toddlers communicate more with each other as well as their teachers. This month the children will be creating masterpieces using shamrocks. They will paint with the color green. On our shelf we have a small treasure chest where the children can drop gold coins. The most popular work among our toddlers is the” sticker work”. Each month we have different stickers according to the theme of the month. Our toddlers will be learning to wash windows using a spray bottle with water and a squeegee. This is a practical skill for everyday life. This activity develops a sense of order and practices concentration and fine motor skills. Another popular practical life activity is the baby doll bathing. North Pole to the children, the first thing that comes to mind for most of them is Santa Claus! After learning about the top of the world, we took a trip to the coldest and windiest place on earth, Antarctica. We learned so much about penguins! The children were busy painting and pin punching penguins, looking at books with all the different kinds of penguins and learning some fun facts about these amazing birds that cannot even fly! The children were especially intrigued by the fact that people do not live in Antarctica and only scientists go to visit to study the land. We looked at many pictures of all the ice and snow that cover much of the land. We did an experiment making a blubber mitt so the children could feel, hands on, how important blubber is in keeping animals warm that live in cold places. I think it is safe to say after learning about the Polar Regions, especially Antarctica, we are ready to leave the cold weather behind and visit a new place and start thinking spring time in Virginia! The children will spend the Month of March learning about Ireland and exploring and talking about the changes that take place around us as we say good bye to winter and welcome spring! The children are always very busy exploring, learning, laughing and growing in Room 5. Room 5 The children have been busy during the month of February learning about the Polar Regions of the world. We started our journey learning about the Arctic Region. We learned all about different arctic animals like the polar bear, caribou, musk ox, and the arctic fox just to name a few. We discussed the land and the climate and the changes that take place in the Arctic Region. Of course when you mention the MCHL News 3
