ProposalsSubmitted–AOOSpartneredwiththeKenaiFjordsNationalParkonapre-proposaltothe
NPSOceanScienceandLearningCentertoprovideaworkshoponOAforparkserviceemployees.
AOOSpartneredwithAxiomandStephenBraund&AssociatesonaproposaltotheNationalAcademies
ofScienceonaprojecttosynthesizeAISshiptrackingdata,GNOMEoilspillmodelresults,and
subsistenceuseinformationintoaunique,interactivetooltoaidresearchandplanningincoastal
communitiesborderingtheAlaskaBeaufortSea.AOOSalsosubmittedaproposaltoBOEM/BSSEat
theirrequesttoingesthistoricArcticmeteorologicalandatmosphericmodelingdatacollectedby
BOEMintotheAOOSdataportal.
Subawardactivity–Staffhavebeenbusypreparingforthenew5yearcooperativeagreementwith
NOAAthatbeganJune1,2016,aswellasfinishingupactivitiesonthepast5yearagreement.We
receiveda1-yearnocostextensionforthatone,andplantocompleteallpastcommitmentsthisyear.
Certification-AOOSstaffhavealsobeenbusypreparingto
submitourproposalforcertificationtothenationalIOOS
ProgramOfficebymid-August.Thisincludesorganizingpast
documentsintoaStrategicOperatingPlan,anddocumenting
QA/QCproceduresandmetadataforallofthedatastreams
weserveupthroughtheAOOSOceanDataExplorer.
MEETINGS&CONFERENCES
ORAP–ExecutiveDirectorMollyMcCammonattendedameetingoftheOceanResearchAdvisory
PanelinArlingtonVAMay31-June1.ORAP,afederaladvisorycommitteetothenation’socean
researchagenciesandtheNationalOceanCouncil,hasnotmetinmorethan2years,butisnow
attemptingtore-invigorateitself.TheotherAlaskanonthecommitteeisMichaelCerneofJuneau,
formerUSCoastGuardboardmembertoAOOS.
MoreDCmeetings–Mollyattendedaspecial2daymeetingoftheIOOSAssociationExecutive
CommitteeinWashingtonDCJune7and8,andthenparticipatedinameetingoftheIOOSdata
managementteaminSilverSpringonJune9.Whilethere,MollyalsojoinedotherRAdirectorsin
representingtheIOOSProgramattheNationalMarineSanctuariesAssociation’sOceanAwardsGala,
whichhonoredSenatorMariaCantwellforherworkonoceanpolicy.
AASG–OperationsDirectorCarolattendedasessiononLidartechnologiesandapplicationsatthe
AmericanAssociationofStateGeologistsconferenceonJune15inGirdwood,AK.
ArcticIoNS–MollyparticipatedintheArcticIncidentofNationalSignificance(IoNS)WorkshopJune2122atUAA.Theworkshopwasatabletopplanningexerciseinresponsetoapotentialcruiseship
grounding.OnJune23asmallergroupmetwiththeArcticDomainAwarenessCenterteamatUAAto
discussfutureactivitiesfortheplannedArcticIntegratedFusionCapabilityproject.
IOOSAssociationFallMeeting–AOOSisexcitedtobehostingtheIOOSAssociationannualfallmeeting
forthefirsttime.MollyandHollyhavebeencollaboratingwithJosieQuintrellandAbbeyWakely(IOOS

Associationstaff)toorganizedetails,logistics,andfieldtripsforthemeetinginAnchorage,September
25-30.Staytunedformoredetails.
AleutianLifeForum–Hollyhasbeenparticipatinginmeetings
asamemberofthesteeringcommitteeforthisconference
slatedforAugust16-19inUnalaska.Darcywillbeattendingto
chairasessiononoceanacidificationandintroducethenew
AlaskaOceanAcidificationNetwork.
OTHER
SAON–Mollycontinuestoparticipateintheexternalreviewcommitteelookingattheinternational
SustainedArcticObservingNetwork(SAON).Thismonthhasfocusedonreviewingtheresultsofa
surveyofpartners,participantsandstakeholders,andconductingin-depthinterviewsofkey
respondents.
DATAMANAGEMENT
GulfofAlaskaHydrologyModel–VisualizationsarecompleteonahydrologymodeloftheStateof
Alaskathatestimateshistoricstreamflowdischargeandsnowwaterequivalentdepthfrom1978to
2014.Seethemodelhere.ThisworkwasdonethroughanNPRB-fundedproject,"Thecontributionsof
precipitationandglacialprocessestofreshwaterfluxesintotheGulfofAlaska."
