The TTLS protocol helps in securing the outer tunnel and PAP secures the inner tunnel. The authentication process followed is very simple; iPassConnect authenticates the server using digital certificates and then, allows the user to connect to the Internet using either static password or dynamic password. TTLS-GTC iPassConnect 3.65.6 now supports Tunneled Transport Layer Security-Generic Token Card (TTLSGTC) protocol, which provides secure two-factor authentication for connectivity to private networks. The TTLS protocol provides the security for the inner tunnel and GTC provides the security for the outer tunnel. iPassConnect 3.65.6 Release Notes © 2008 iPass Inc. 1 Summary of 802.1X protocols supported in iPassConnect The following table contains list of 802.1X protocols supported by iPassConnect 3.65.6: 8021X Protocol Mode Live - Logon Win-Logon Windows XP Windows Vista Windows XP Windows Vista 8021X_MD5 Yes No Yes No 8021X_TLS Yes No Yes Yes 8021X_LEAP Yes No Yes No 8021X_PEAP_MSCHAPV2 Yes No Yes Yes 8021X_PEAP_TLS Yes No Yes No 8021X_PEAP_GTC Yes No Yes Yes 8021X_TTLS_MD5 Yes No Yes No 8021X_TTLS_PAP Yes No Yes Yes 8021X_TTLS_GTC Yes No Yes Yes 8021X_TTLS_CHAP Yes No Yes No 8021X_TTLS_MSCHAP Yes No Yes No 8021X_TTLS_MSCHAPV2 Yes No Yes No 8021X_FAST_MSCHAPV2 Yes No Yes No 8021X_FAST_TLS Yes No Yes No 8021X_FAST_GTC No No No No iPassConnect 3.65.6 Release Notes © 2008 iPass Inc. 2 Token Authentication iPassConnect 3.65.6 contains customer specific enhancements for use with RSA soft tokens. Location of Log Files: Note the location of the iPassConnect log files; this conforms better to Microsoft guidelines and avoids problems associated with management of log files within the %PROGRAMFILES% folder structure: Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\iPass\log Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\iPass\log In both cases, the log files are located in "hidden" folders and so, depending on the configuration of Windows Explorer, the user may not see them while browsing the file system. To view these folders, perform the following steps: 1. Open Windows Explorer->Tools->Folder Options->View (for windows Vista this step will be Windows Explorer-> Organize -> Folder and Search Options->View) 2. Select Show hidden files and folders option. iPassConnect 3.65.6 Release Notes © 2008 iPass Inc. 4 Resolved Issues The following issues have been resolved in this release. The numbers in parentheses indicate relevant bug numbers where applicable. Connectivity “An invalid argument was encountered” error message is no longer displayed, when the user toggles between the “Cancel” and “Disconnect” in the Connection Status dialog, and then presses the ENTER key on the keyboard. Custom actions are now fired correctly while connecting to a customer (Cbook) Wi-Fi POP (Customer Trusted Wi-Fi), using Flex VPN, on Microsoft Vista. iPassConnect now uses the login credentials specified at the time of connection to connect to a hotspot. Previously, if the user edited the domain information, the client would connect to the Internet using the original value instead of the edited value. Software Updates The Proxy Authentication Required for iPassConnect dialog will now display Remember my Password option when the user requests for either Phonebook or Software updates. Previously, for failed software update “The Software is up to date” message was incorrectly displayed, as the system could not connect to the Phonebook update server. In this release, the Software update process has been enhanced to display the correct error message. SQM iPassConnect now sends the Full_user_id value to SQM for all the connections. iPassConnect 3.65.6 Release Notes © 2008 iPass Inc. 5 Phonebook The Keyword search results are now displayed in ascending Alphabetical order. User Interface The timer counter value in Connection Status dialog is now displayed for PEAP-GTC enabled hotspots also. In the Token Configuration window, for Software token enabled connections the cursor focus is on the PIN field. Known Issues The following are the known issues in this release. The numbers in parentheses indicate relevant bug numbers where applicable. Installation If the user tries to install iPassConnect client on a Windows XP system with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i already installed on it, iPassConnect is now displaying the error message “Could not start service- iPassPeriodicUpdateApp”. McAfee blocks the installation of iPassConnect. A workaround for this is to stop the McAfee service before installing iPassConnect. Connectivity It is observed that, on entering an invalid password in Provide Response window, iPassConnect is not displaying the correct message. However, Windows operating system is displaying “Windows cannot connect you to SSID” error message. Software Updates If the Internet Explorer proxy settings are configured for iPassConnect, then, the Software Update for iPass client will be unsuccessful. 802.1X If an iPassConnect user connected (using Fast Reconnect) to the Internet with a Vista machine, moves in an On Campus Network from one access point to another access point which has the same SSID, then iPassConnect tries to connect to the new access point, but the connection fails.
