The town has about fifteen villages. Basse-Nendaz is the administrative capital. Close
to Sion, the town of Nendaz is in the middle of the Rhone valley on the left bank. Its
immense territory of 8593 hectares has several unique features: it follows the
contours of the valley of the same name and it extends from the fertile plain to the
eternal snowfields. Forests cover nearly a quarter of its land. It plays a notorious
protective role, preserving the devastation of erosion and avalanches. The valley is
cut in two by the river Printse ; this raging river is both source and outlet of a multitude
of irrigation channels (« bisse ») for irrigation.
Nendaz is surrounded by magnificent peaks, such as that Rosablanche, peaking at
3336 meters. From that point you have the most beautiful alpine viewpoint of the
central Valais. Important to know, is that the Mont Fort (3330 meters) ist now
accessible to all thanks to the lifts.
