It is with these volunteers that we are able to have a netball association and games each week. I would like to publically acknowledge the committee and thank them for all the hard work that they have done so far this season. Whilst this is only the beginning, it is going to be a big year for MIANA, and watch this space for upcoming works to the grounds. The 2017 Committee are: Julie Hutchinson, Barbara Baker, Nikki Barlow, Lenore Krutzfeldt, Faye Tapu, Hayley Drewe, Danielle Philpot, Tamhara Holder, Pania Osborne, Wairita Emery and Kim Coghlan. It is without these people behind me, the works and visions I have for this association could not get done. So thank you for the countless hours, endless emails, long days, and arduous tasks you may be set. It is you who make this association what it is and I thank you for your assistance in all you do in your roles. Please do remember that the people who run the association week in, week out are all volunteer with full time jobs. Whilst we endeavour to get back to you as quickly as we can, this can sometimes take a day or two to respond. Yours in Netball, Mel Allen MIANA President SIGN ON DAY AND WAITANGI DAY EXHIBTION GAME Thank you to all the club delegates, committee members and others whom spent the morning sitting in the heat waiting for new players and interest. For those players who have just joined us welcome we hope you have an enjoyable netball season. Hayley Drewe (Club Delegate) Vixens Netball Maddie Merret (Club Delegate) Rovers Netball A great effort from both teams who played in the Waitangi Day exhibition game with Barb Baker and Ma Enoka umpiring. There was great sportsmanship from both sides with the Kiwi team sharing their players with the Rest of the World side to ease the pressure from the scorching heat that did not ease. As a kiwi, I am grateful that the Mount Isa community and netball association lets us continue to celebrate this traditional game as part of our Waitangi celebrations and culture. NEW NETBALL CLUB As club delegate, I would like to introduce our newly formed club “Te Whanau Netball” which means “family and to be united”. Most of our club members have merged over from long standing club “Matariki”. We have seven teams in the competition with three teams in the junior comp, four in the senior comp with one of our junior teams playing up in the senior division 4 also. NetSetGo Expression of Interest: Looking for an energetic, positive accredited coach to take on the role of assisting ages 5-10 year players into an introductory netball program, providing a friendly and fun environment ensuring a quality experience for all participants. Please forward your interest to [email protected] 2017 MIANA UNDER 13/15 YEARS REP TRIALS Due to not enough numbers and interest we could not have rep trials at this time. With most of the carnivals being earlier on in the year we hope to have other opportunities to enter into carnivals at a later date. GRADING WEEKS AND TEAM DIVISIONS We have had to extend this to an extra week due to being rained out for the juniors and to ensure all teams are playing in the correct division. All team delegates received an email regarding what divisions the club teams are in. This list is also available on our Mount Isa Netball Association facebook page. Thank you for your patience and co-operation during this time. If you have any enquires please send an email to our grading selection team @ [email protected] UMPIRES – From our Umpire Convenor Hayley Drewe As the season is about to start this week ALL UMPIRES are required to have completed the online test or have a local/national badge. *All umpires and scorers need to SIGN the umpiring sheet to avoid delays. *All umpires are to wear a white shirt and suitable footwear. *All posts on Facebook asking for umpires will be deleted by admin as all teams have nominated 2 umpires.
