Breast Cancer Awareness Month
www.nationalbreastcancer.org
Can physical activity reduce the risk of breast cancer?
Exercise boosts the immune system and helps you to keep your
weight in check. With as little as three hours of exercise per week, or about 30
minutes a day, a woman can begin to lower her risk of breast cancer. This
doesn't require going to a gym either. Power walking is more than sufficient.
Can a healthy diet help to prevent breast cancer?
A nutritious, low-fat diet (30 grams or less) with plenty of fruits and
green and orange vegetables can help reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. A high-fat diet increases the risk because fat triggers estrogen production
that can fuel tumor growth.
Does smoking cause breast cancer?
Smoking is a confirmed risk factor for many types of cancer. Recent
research has confirmed that smoking is a contributing risk factor for developing breast cancer. Additionally, second hand smoke is also a risk factor. So if
you're a smoker, help yourself in a significant way and join a smoking cessation program to help you stop. The day you stop smoking the healing can begin and each week in which you are smoke-free, you give yourself increasing
advantages for a healthier life. Smoking also directly contributes to heart and
other lung diseases, too.
How often should I go to my doctor for a check-up?
You should have a physical every year which should include a clinical breast
exam and pelvic exam. If any unusual symptoms or changes in your breasts
occur before your scheduled visit, do not hesitate to see the doctor immediately.
Does a family history of breast cancer put someone
at higher risk?
Although women who have a family history of breast cancer are in a higher
risk group, most women who have breast cancer have no family history. Statistically only 5-10% of individuals diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of this disease.

The Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was dedicated in New York Harbor by President Grover
Cleveland on October 28, 1886. Consider the following facts about this marvel.
Total overall height from the base of the pedestal foundation to the tip of the
torch is 305 feet, 6 inches.
The height of the statue itself, from heel to the top of her head, is 111 feet, 6
inches.
Lady Liberty's face is more than 8 feet tall.
There are 154 steps from the pedestal to the head of the Statue of Liberty.
The tablet held in her left hand measures 23' 7" tall by 13' 7" wide, inscribed
with the date JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776).
The statue has a 35 foot waistline.
There are seven rays on her crown, representing the seven continents, each
measuring up to 9 feet in length and weighing as much as 150 pounds.
The total weight of the statue is 225 tons (450,000 pounds)
At the feet of the Statue lie broken shackles of oppression and tyranny.
During the restoration completed in 1986, the new torch was carefully covered with thin sheets of 24 karat gold.
The exterior copper covering of the Statue of Liberty is 3/32 of an inch thick
(less than the thickness of two pennies) and the light green patina is the result
of natural weathering of the copper.

The First World Series Was Played October 1903
The 1903 World Series, the first modern World Series to be played in Major League Baseball,
matched the Boston American League club against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a best-of-nine series,
with Boston winning the last four, to prevail five games to three. Pittsburgh pitcher Sam Leever injured his shoulder while trap-shooting, so his teammate Deacon Phillippe had to pitch five complete
games for Pittsburgh. Phillippe won three of his games, but it was not enough to overcome the club
from the new American League.
Boston pitchers Bill Dinneen and Cy Young led Boston to victory. Honus Wagner, bothered by
injuries, batted only 6 for 27 (.222) in the Series and committed six errors. The shortstop was deeply
distraught by his performance. The following spring, Wagner (who led the league in 1903 in batting
average) refused to send his portrait to a "Hall of Fame" for batting champions. "I was too bum last
year," he wrote. "I was a joke in that Boston-Pittsburgh Series. What does it profit a man to hammer along and make a few hits when they are not needed only to fall down when it comes to a pinch?
I would be ashamed to have my picture up now.”
Thank You!
Thanks to YOU the word is spreading! Thanks to all of my wonderful clients and friends who graciously referred me to their friends and neighbors last
