Ev ent I n fo r m a t io n
The Australian All Schools and Youth Track & Field Championships are the
pinnacle event for school aged athletics competitors in Australia. Held annually
in December, the event will see 1473 athletes from all over Australia compete.
Following the successful conduct of the NSW All Schools Championships in
October, which saw over 1500 athletes compete over two weekends, Athletics
NSW has selected a team of 410 athletes to compete at the Australian All Schools.
With a strong home track advantage, the team will hope to improve on the success
it tasted last year, where it captured over a third of all medals available to be won.

Bulli’s Ryan Gregson is considered one of the brightest middle distance hopes in Australia. Over
the past twelve months he has risen to prominence and gained selection to the Australian team
for the World Youth Championships in the Czech Republic, where he finished a creditable fifth.
Recently the 17 year old has gone on a record breaking spree. In the space of a month he has
broken the Australian Under 18 records over 1500m, 3000m and 5000m. The most impressive
performance was breaking Craig Mottram’s Australian Junior (under 20) 3000m record in
early November in finishing third in the NSW Open 3000m championships, clocking a superb
time of 8:01.34. Mottram was a whole two year’s older when he set the previous record.
At the Australian All Schools he will contest the 1500m and 3000m before settting his sights on again
breaking the Australian Under 18 1500m record a week later at the Zatopek Meet in Melbourne.

• Ranked 1st (200m) and 2nd (100m) in NSW
Open rankings for 2006-07 season
A colourful character on and off the track, diminutive Olivia Tauro sports blond
ponytails whenever she competes. She dominated the Australian All Schools last year,
recording a Meet Record of 23.65 seconds in the 200m. She ended the season ranked
1st (200m) and 2nd (100m) respectively on the NSW Open rankings for the season.
Tauro reached the semi-final stage of both sprints at the World Youth Championships in the
Czech Republic and also ran a blistering 300m leg in the Australian Medley Relay team which
finished fourth. Tauro favours the 200m event and has suggested that she may
step up to the 400m in years to come, especially after a fast relay split of 53.7
seconds in anchoring the NSW 4x400m team at last year’s Australian All Schools.
Tauro’s main goal for the season is to qualify and contest the World Junior
Championships
in
Bydgoszcz,
Poland,

she

from earning a spot in the Australian 4x100m team for the Beijing Olympics.

At height 193cm and weight 105kg, Idris is a strapping young indigenous athlete with a
bright future. Hailing from the far north coast of NSW, Idris’s family relocated last year to
Regents Park in Sydney’s West in order to him more opportunity to hone his talent: throwing.
Idris represented Australia earlier this year in the discus at the World Youth Championships
in Ostrava, Czech Republic. He has since focused his attention on the javelin event, recently
throwing the qualifying performance for the World Junior Championships to be held next year in
Bydgoszcz, Poland. A multi-talented athlete, Idris will contest the Shot Put, Discus and Javelin at
the Australian All Schools and is also under contract with the Sydney Bulldogs rugby league team.

15 year old Carly Rodger is hoping to following in the footsteps of one of her idols – Australian 100m
Hurdles record holder Sally McLellan. Rodger is only one tenth of a second outside McLellan’s Australian
U16 record in the 90m Hurdles and already holds the NSW record in that event and the 200m Hurdles.
With good flat running speed and exceptional hurdling technique, the Kirrawee High School student is
well on her way to emulating her idol’s success and representing Australia with distinction in the future.

Amy Pejkovic thrust herself into the spotlight at the recent NSW All Schools Championships,
recorded the equal highest leap in the history of the event. Her clearance of 1.80m in the U15
event would have been sufficient to win the boy’s event in the same age group and surpassed
the performances of World Youth (U18) representatives Trudy Thompson and Mia MacKinnon.
Pejkovic shares the equal lead in the NSW Open Rankings for this season with Commonwealth
Games representative Claire Mallet. She is also talented in the long and triple jumps and is a
good chance to win all three events in the under 15 age group at the Australian All Schools.

Hailing from Moruya on the far south coast of NSW, Kingdom faces relative isolation
from the athletics world. Used to training on a grass track, she faces over a three and a
half hour drive to Sydney and thus competes more regularly in Canberra than in Sydney.
Everytime Kingdom comes to Sydney she runs exceptionally. On the last two occasions, Kingdom has
clocked multiple personal bests. More recently she ran a time of 2:06.23 in a mixed race in Canberra,
which would have been a qualifying performance for next year’s World Junior Championships
had it been held in a female only race. She is hoping that her next trip to Sydney, the Australian
All School Championships, will result in not only another personal best, but also a gold medal.

C h a m p io nships
The World Junior Championships are held every two years and attract the world’s best under 20
athletes. In 2008 the event will be held in Bydgoszcz, Poland from 8-13 July.
Athletics Australia will select a team from those athletes born in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Athletes
are generally required to meet the qualifying standards listed below on two occasions in order to be
eligible for selection.
The team will be selected following the Australian Under 20 Championships on the Gold Coast on
14-16 March, 2007. The Australian All Schools represents a wonderful competitive opportunity for
athletes to achieve the qualifying standards.

2008 Sydney Track Classic
12 January, 2008
The Sydney Track Classic is the first
major event of 2008 and athletes will
have one thing on their mind - Beijing.
With ‘National Series’ status from Athletics
Australia, the meet will gather some of
Australia’s finest athletes as they seek qualifying
standards in their quest to become Olympians.
The meet will have a unique feel this year, with an
on field cocktail function allowing fans the chance
to get closer to the athletes than ever before.
Australian sprint queen Sally McLellan is already
a confirmed starter in the event and it is expected
that many other established and upcoming
stars of Australian athletics will confirm their
intention to compete over the coming weeks.
Visit www.sydneytrackclassic.com for all of the
breaking news on the event.
