Elementary Spanish Newsletter abril/mayo de 2014 Pulaski Community School District Elementary Spanish Curriculum Students in grades K-4 receive 30 minutes of Spanish instruction, three times each week. Every year your child will learn about a new Spanish-speaking area of the world. In kindergarten, students explore Mexico, first graders learn about Costa Rica, second graders study Peru, third, Puerto Rico, and fourth graders dive into Spain! Both social studies and health content are woven into the Spanish curriculum. ¡Celebremos! Semana Santa 13 de abril-19 de abril Semana Santa is a week-long celebration beginning on Palm Sunday and ending the day before Easter. During this week, there are many religious reenactments. La Pascua 20 de abril-26 de abril April/May Units Kindergarten: Friends and Family: Students will learn about qualities of good friends and understand that all families are special and unique. Communities: Students will learn about workers in a school community and city community. First Grade: My World: First graders will continue to learn about the continents and oceans in the world as well as focus on cardinal directions and currency. That’s the Way I Am!: Students will practice describing themselves and their families using adjectives in Spanish. Second Grade: My Communities: Second graders will continue their study of communities, with a special focus on school and family. They will compare and contrast these communities with those in Peru. Third Grade: Staying Healthy!: Students will learn about good nutrition and healthy exercises. Fourth Grade: Let’s go to Spain: Fourth graders are going on a virtual tour of Spain to learn about the various cities, food, activities and culture. Who is in the season of la primavera (Spring)? During this week, many people spend time with families and go on vacation to celebrate the new beginning of Spring.
