Thank you for your interest in applying for the 2016 GRRL Tech/University of Rhode Island Scholarship. The
University will award multiple $4,000 renewable scholarships to students who attend GRRL Tech on March 24,
2016. The successful candidates will be selected from this year’s applicants and must:
1.) Be either a sophomore or junior RI high school student
2.) complete and submit the attached cover form and proposal
3.) attend GRRL Tech on March 24, 2016
Before applying, please review URI’s offerings of programs and majors to be sure that they align with your
own interests/career goals. Information on URI’s degree programs can be found at www.uri.edu.

Your entry will be evaluated on answering the questions, content, form (spelling, grammar, and
punctuation), and staying within the allocated budget and number of words.

Include all 5 areas in your essay.

Include your essay (on a separate paper) with the Application page and email it to the address listed at
the top of this application in an MS WORD format no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26,
2016.

Only completed – including the application page - and on-time applications will be considered.

Do not include your name on your essay.

This year’s GRRL Tech Scholarship essay is not a question. Instead, you are invited to participate in the planning of a
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Career Expo for middle school girls by developing a STEM –
related workshop on a subject of your choice.
Please complete the sections below in the number of words/budget allotted to each section.
Experience: You have been asked to propose an idea for a one-hour, hands on workshop which will introduce 30 girls
- ages 11-14, to a STEM discipline.
#1. Describe the goal of your workshop? (50 words or less)
#2. Provide the topic, title and description of your workshop activity (100 words or less).
#3. Please explain why you think your workshop will be effective in engaging the girls, and what your personal STEM
passion/interest is? (100 words or less.)
#4. You have a $100 to spend on supplies for your workshop. List the materials and other items you will need to and
stay within your budget. Assign a total dollar amount to each item.
#5. Please explain – in 50 words or less - how you will you evaluate the success of your workshop?
