The first winter was very cold
in America for the Pilgrims.
The Indians helped the Pilgrims
and showed them how to grow
corn. To celebrate the first
harvest the Pilgrims and
Indians joined in a big meal,
played games, and read stories.
The Pilgrims went to church
for three days.They called this
celebration Thanksgiving Day,
because they were thankful for
the harvest and the help they
got from the Indians.
Thanksgiving Day is celebrated
every year on the fourth
Thursday of November. People
invite their families and they
have a big meal with turkey,
corn, pumpkin pie and fruit.
