6C Maths Homework Mental Find the number halfway between these decimals (try to do each within 10 secs) 1. 14.6 and 22.2 2. 13.9 and 21.3 3. 2.43 and 2.44 Have a go at these mental word problems (remember it’s either finding the relationship ( a one-step x or divide) or finding the cost of 1 (dividing the amount by the number, then x) 1. 2. 3. 4. If 3 books cost £6.00, how much will 12 books cost? If 4 apples cost £1.20, how much will 7 apples cost? If 5 bananas cost £1.50, how much will 15 bananas cost? If 6 bars of chocolate cost £1.20, how much will 9 bars be? Main Activity We have been working very, very hard on fractions this week! Here are a few to have a go at: Adding fractions: (Remember just add the numerator, although you may have to make equivalents that share a common denominator; and make sure you mixed number and simplify) 1. 3/7 + 2/7 2. 4/5 + 3/8 3. 5/7 + 6/9 Subtracting fractions : (Same as above – only taking away!) 1. 6/9 – 4/9 2. 5/7 – 1/3 3. 6/8 – 1/5 Multiplying fractions: (When it’s a fraction x integer, just x the numerator by the integer & keep the denominator the same, and then mixed number/simplify. When x 2 fractions, X the numerators together, then x the denominators together, don’t forget to mixed number & simplify where necessary) 1. 3/5 x 6 2. 4/7 x 9 3. 4/12 x 8 4. 5/6 x 7/9 5. 2/5 x 8/12 6. 3/8 x 9/15 Dividing fractions: (When it’s a fraction and integer, make the integer into a fraction by using /1 as a denominator. Then turn it upside down (reciprocal) and x numerators and x denominators. Mixed number/ simplify. When it’s 2 fractions, go straight to the reciprocal stage, and turn the second fraction upside down, then x numerators and denominators. Don’t forget to missed number/simplify!) 1. 7/9 ÷ 4 4. 5/7 ÷ 2/8 2. 9/15 ÷ 7 3. 12/20 ÷ 6 5. 7/12 ÷ 3/5 6. 9/12 ÷ 2/7 Homework is due in on Wednesday 21st January
