From Your Pastor
July 31, 2016
Dear Grace Family and Friends,
I’m intrigued by those who cover the back end of their car with all
kinds of “stickers.” It’s obvious they want to share their convictions
with the world. I remember one that states, “God said it, I believe it
and it’s so?” On the surface, that seems to be a legitimate
declaration of faith in the authenticity of “God’s Holy Word.” Yet,
upon further analysis, it’s actually a bit confusing. God’s Word is
true whether or not we believe it. Whether or not I believe it changes
nothing. That’s one reason I’m weary of this election cycle. The
blatant misrepresentation of facts by both sides is maddening.
Politicians seem to think if they speak a lie often enough it will
become truth. Sadly, many are so gullible their lies are accepted as
truth. We’re vulnerable in this regard because we’ve distanced
ourselves from the notion of “absolute truth.” Pretending truth is
relative changes nothing. Truth is truth, and one day our lives will be
evaluated against the only truth that endures; the truth of God in
Jesus Christ. As such, that Truth should define us. Can we really
know “truth?” That’s been debated for centuries. Pontius Pilate
asked that of Jesus in John 18:38 and untold millions have inquired
similarly. There is no reason for confusion. In John 14:6, Jesus said,
“I am the way, the truth and the life” “No one comes to the Father
but by Me.” Jesus is the absolute Truth of God, and He has revealed
Himself to us through His Holy Word. How well do we know Him?
I’m thankful for the free access we have to God’s Word and trust we
make spending time in it a daily priority. But more importantly, I
trust we’re applying the truth it contains to our daily lives. If not,
that should change immediately. I love you and am honored to be
your Pastor. May God Richly Bless You Today!
