Thursday, February 2 - Fargo - 1 hr 38 mins. This is the first movie in our Coen
Brothers retrospective. Jerry Lundegaard works in his father-in-law's car dealership and
has gotten himself in financial problems and his huge embezzlement is about to be
discovered by his father-in-law. When all other plans fall through, he sets in motion a
plan for two men to kidnap his wife for ransom to be paid by her wealthy father. From
the moment of the kidnapping, things go wrong and what was supposed to be a nonviolent affair turns bloody with more blood added by the minute. Note there is some
violence, sexuality and profanity in this movie.
Monday, February 6 - A Walk in the Woods; 1hr 44 mins. An author (Robert Redford)
decides to hike the length of the Appalachian Trail. Finding a friend (Nick Nolte) to join
him they set out. Their contrasting personalities strain their relationship as they
encounter difficulties on the trail. However, in the end they come to appreciate each
other’s strengths. Beautiful scenery!
Thursday, February 9 - Namesake; 2hrs 2 mins. This Indian-American film tells the
story of an Indian family arriving in the US and making a life as immigrants. It is a story
about the parents and the son who grows up “American” often rejecting his parents’
culture and experiences. Relationships evolve as the son becomes an adult and gains
an appreciation for his parents’, their culture, and their experiences.

Thursday, February 16 - The Secret Life of Pets; 1hr 27 mins. Animated Comedy. A
Terrier named Max becomes jealous when his owner, Katie adopts a mutt from the
pound named Duke. The two dogs are thrown together in an outdoor adventure through
which they overcome their jealousy as they come to rely on each other for survival. With
actors Louie C. K. and Albert Brooks among others providing the voices, this computeranimated film received very positive reviews world-wide.
Monday, February 20 - Buena Vista Social Club; 1 hr. 45 mins. In time to put us in
the mood for music and Carnaval, this film about aging Cuban musicians whose talents
had been virtually forgotten following Castro's takeover of Cuba. They were found and
brought out of retirement by Ry Cooder, who travelled to Havana in order to bring the
musicians together and resurrected their careers.
Tuesday, February 21 Special Movie - SOME LIKE IT HOT, 1:00 pm starring Marilyn
Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and more! Two Struggling musicians witness the
St. Valentine's Day Massacre and are now on the run from the Mob. Jerry and Joe
cross-dress into an all-female band. In addition to hiding, each has his own problems;
One falls for another band member but can't tell her his gender, and the other has a rich
suitor who will not take "No," for an answer. $50 pesos
Monday, February 27 ONE SHOW ONLY - Casanova; 1hr 52 mins. 2:00 pm. This
adventure romance stars Heath Ledger who won an award for best actor of 2005 for his
portrayal of the legendary lover. The movie is full of intrigue, romance, however, in this
version Casanova meets his match in the person of a woman who is as quick-witted
and brilliantly persuasive as he is. This film is on loan from Marshall Mason and Danny
Irvine.

February 15 - Our February travel series will take you to southern Africa. Ingrid and
Frank spent four spectacular weeks seeing Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Swaziland, on
safari in Botswana, driving on the Garden Route, Kruger National Park and in
Capetown. Some animals you will see include elephants, leopards, antelope, lions and
many birds including ones endangered and critically endangered. $50 pesos.

February 22 - Living in Mexico, 2:00 - 3:30. A panel will provide useful information on
a variety of topics of interest to those who come to Mexico to spend an extended period
of time or to move here. Among the topics to be discussed are immigration to Mexico,
the experience of pulling up stakes and moving here, and how to hire and pay for
household help (from cleaning staff to contractors.)
