From the moment of the kidnapping, things go wrong and what was supposed to be a nonviolent affair turns bloody with more blood added by the minute. An author (Robert Redford) decides to hike the length of the Appalachian Trail. Finding a friend (Nick Nolte) to join him they set out. Their contrasting personalities strain their relationship as they encounter difficulties on the trail. However, in the end they come to appreciate each other’s strengths. Beautiful scenery! Thursday, February 9 - Namesake; 2hrs 2 mins. This Indian-American film tells the story of an Indian family arriving in the US and making a life as immigrants. It is a story about the parents and the son who grows up “American” often rejecting his parents’ culture and experiences. Relationships evolve as the son becomes an adult and gains an appreciation for his parents’, their culture, and their experiences. A Terrier named Max becomes jealous when his owner, Katie adopts a mutt from the pound named Duke. The two dogs are thrown together in an outdoor adventure through which they overcome their jealousy as they come to rely on each other for survival. With actors Louie C. K. and Albert Brooks among others providing the voices, this computeranimated film received very positive reviews world-wide. Monday, February 20 - Buena Vista Social Club; 1 hr. 45 mins. In time to put us in the mood for music and Carnaval, this film about aging Cuban musicians whose talents had been virtually forgotten following Castro's takeover of Cuba. They were found and brought out of retirement by Ry Cooder, who travelled to Havana in order to bring the musicians together and resurrected their careers.
