INTRODUCTION
The test project for painting and decorating consists of wallpaper hanging, freehand
painting of a design, lettering .
.
The decoration design is adopted from the UAE flag along with the Falcon which is
considered a symbol of the country .

The competitor has to carry out, independently, the following tasks:






Application with filling tools, paintbrush and paint roller
Preparation and application of wall paper hangings
Drawing and applying a design
Attaching lettering and signs
Measuring points
Mixing and painting of a masking design

MODULE 1 WALL PAPERING/PAPERHANGING
The measurements of the panel and the areas to apply the wallpaper are given on the plan. The
work area is constructed from plasterboard and is prepared. The surface has to be prepared
professionally in advance to allow for perfect papering of the wall ( you may apply a sealer , glue
size or PVA).The wallpaper must be cut in the corners/angles and matched. The glue /adhesive
will be prepared by the experts . The wallpaper is made by EXCELLENT 3D P.58 wallpaper code
N.9013-4
 Prepare the panel.
 The paper must be matched correctly including the corner and hung vertically.
NB. If any competitor needs another roll of wallpaper during the competition , 2 marks are
deducted.
Time: Day 1, AM, preparation of the background
Day 2 , PM: Perfect hanging of the wallpaper/paperhanging including the corner
Marking: 40marks (of 100)

MODULE 2 – DESIGN AND LETTERING
The measurements of the work bay are 1200 mm x 1700 mm . The panel is
manufactured from
Plaster board and will have already been given an undercoat (white dispersion).
DESIGN
Construction of a given design and freehand painting without the use of masking
film or masking shields .E.g .applying by paintbrush or roller and using a Mahl stick
or painters ruler. All original colours will be provided, and must be applied as shown
on the colour schedule
The Design must not be drawn using a marker pen, , only with a pencil or knife. It is
not permitted to scratch with a knife after painting! The competitors will get a
perforated blueprint for the Falcon.
LETTERING
The font of the lettering will be agreed by the experts before the competition. The
numbers “ 2016” will be provided 1:1 as an already cut sign mask film or as tracing
paper, the letters “U,A,E” will not be provided and have to enlarged manually
(without using optical gadgets) by either paintbrush-technical or cutting-technical, ,
and has to be painted in the given colour.
The competitor will be provided with their own masking film. The whole set of
lettering “UAE” “2016” has to be positioned according to the dimensions in the
enclosed plan.

OTHER
FOR COMPETITORS
No use of mobile phones during the work area or on the competition floor.
Food and drink is not allowed in the competition area. (Water only)
You need to use personal protection equipment when necessary.
Wear proper work clothing. (Overalls)
Safety Shoes must be worn in the competition area
Cleaning of the working area can be carried out after competition time.
Cleaning of brushes, tools and equipment can be carried out in break times
FOR EXPERTS
Experts must allow the competitors space on the competition floor, to do their work.
