Visual Arts Planning for School Website – Term 2
PREP
Students explore the elements of colour, line, shape and texture through the following activities:
 Exploring painting techniques, materials and tools and experimenting with the mixing of colours
 Becoming aware of the differences in designing a drawing compared to a painting.
 Tracing shape templates to help build a design suitable for painting
 Using symmetry in folding, cutting & construction of paper masks & paper animal puppets
 Exploring texture to create textural effects for their artworks by taking rubbings of found objects
 Viewing & discussing the art styles of various children’s book illustrators.
 Exploring 3D modelling techniques.
Year 1
Students explore the elements of colour, line, shape and texture through the following activities:





Exploring painting techniques, materials and tools and experimenting with the mixing of colours
Applying design elements in the creation of artworks and beginning to use language to explain
concepts.
Exploring texture to create textural effects for their artworks by taking rubbings of found objects
Viewing and discussing the style of Eric Carle and creating textured painted paper to use in collage.
Exploring 3D modelling techniques.
Year 4
Students explore the elements of colour, line, shape and texture through the following activities:
 Drawing the human figure considering shape, size, proportion, position & movement while
implementing various sketching techniques.
 Using Olympic pictograms as stimulus for the creation of their own sporting figure painting.
 Reinventing their sporting figure in the ancient Grecian style through the medium of printmaking.
 Viewing & discussing ancient Grecian vases, urns & decorative techniques.
 Construction of a papier mache urn/ trophy & decoration thereof in the greek style.
Year 7
Students explore the elements of colour, line, shape and texture through the following activities:

Reviewing & discussing resources of the development of artistic styles through the ages leading
to a more comprehensive study of Pop Art

Experimenting with colour mixing to create a monochromatic pop art symbol

Discovering how working collaboratively gives us many design ideas and options while creating
group pop art wallpaper and class motto poster.

Individual designing and creating of a pop art themed artwork inspired by the works of artists
Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and/or Lichtenstein while using the techniques including painting,
printmaking & collage.

Constructing a 3D papier mache sculpture of a comic character, and decorating the surface with
pop art imagery related to a chosen theme.
