Protecting the Amazon

Many important plants, animals and insects live in
rainforests. They are home to tribal communities too.
There is a lot we can do to help protect rainforests and
the people and animals that live there. For example, we
can use paper smartly by:
Picture yourself
in the rainforest
Printing on both sides
Reusing and recycling it
Using recycled paper products
Looking out for the FSC label
Why not take your photo with
some of the amazing creatures
from the Amazon? You can
print out your picture when you
get home and stick it in this
cut-out frame.
Tell your friends and family why rainforests are important.
You can also encourage them to choose products with a
Fairtrade, Organic or Rainforest Alliance label.
Are there any signs of animals
in this forest like pine cones
nibbled by squirrels, paw prints
in the ground or feathers?

How the Amazon
affects you
The Amazon plays a huge part in our lives without many
of us realising it. Many household items contain
ingredients found in the Amazon. Not only that,
rainforests help control our Earth’s climate. They
remove huge amounts of carbon dioxide from the air
and release oxygen for us to breathe. That’s why trees
are so important.
Take a few deep breaths of the oxygen from this
forest to give you extra energy and use it to jump up
and down and enjoy being here.
Now look at this list. Which of these things do you
think we can thank the Amazon rainforest for?
