Technological Systems, Grade 8 Teacher: Mr. Pawlowski 2012-2013 E-Mail: [email protected] Help Session: Thursday Afternoons 3:00 – 3:30 PM (By appointment) COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for students to utilize the universal systems model including input, process, output and feedback. Students will examine various systems, such as; electrical, magnetic, mechanical, fluid, structural, natural, thermal, chemical, and information. Students will learn how various systems work together. Technological Systems reinforces the areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts through practical application and/or hands on activities. At the end of this course, students will be able to utilize the universal systems model to design and produce a technological product. Student will maintain a “one inch” three ring binder with plastic slip cover for all assignments. 2. Student will need to purchase and bring the following to class each and every day. Students will examine the nature of engineering & technology. Students will evaluate the impacts of engineering & technology on Society . Students will explain the engineering design process Students will demonstrate an understanding for a technological world through hands-on projects. Students will analyze the designed world of engineering, electronics, manufacturing, and energy. Students will examine and research careers in fields related to engineering & technology. Students will develop leadership skills and work ethics. Make-up Work: According to Fulton County Board of Education, Policy JBD, “Upon return to school following an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the teachers to request make-up work. Make up work must be completed by the student within the time specified by the teacher.” The students will be given the same amount of time to make up work as the student was absent unless other arrangements are mutually agreed upon. The student will receive the actual grade on the make-up work if the absence was “excused”. 10 points may reduce make-up for “unexcused” absences. Make-up work submitted late will receive a zero. Make-up schedule for a student is from 7:00 until 7:40 a. m. Monday – Friday. . Extra Credit: Extra credit opportunities will be offered periodically to the entire class. Specialized extra credit will only be offered to those students that have followed classroom expectations and completed regular classroom and homework assignments. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS: ***SEE HANDBOOK FOR FUTHER PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS*** 1. Be on time to class. 2. Bring agendas, pencils, and supplies to class daily. 3. Participate in all classroom activities. 4. Maintain an open, positive attitude about all types learning activities. 5. Please refrain from eating candy, food or chewing gum in the classroom. 6. Student will be an active participant in class activities and group projects. 7. Student will show respect to fellow classmates, teacher, equipment and materials in the classroom. 8. Workstation must be cleaned and materials returned to proper places before being dismissed. 9. The Internet is to be used only when given a specific assignment. Do not get on any Internet website unless the teacher has given you permission. 10. Please take care of your personal needs before class. If an emergency arises, you may ask the teacher for permission to go to the restroom. You must have your Agenda signed by the teacher before you may leave the classroom Consequences for misbehavior: 1st Time – Warning 2nd Time – Writing Assignment 3rd Time – Phone Parents/Detention 4th Time – Office Referral Agendas and Communication The agenda should be filled in for all subjects each day. Even if there is no homework, what occurred in class should be noted. Teachers also write notes in the agenda to communicate with parents and guardians. Please make sure to tell your child to have me sign any communication you send so you will know that I have seen it. I also ask that you sign any communication I send you.
