3­5 ~ Line of Best Fit
A scatter plot is a graph used to determine whether there is a relationship between two variables. Scatter plots can illustrate trends in data.
Describe the correlation of the data graphed in each scatter plot.
When a relationship between appears to be linear it can be helpful to model the relationship with a line of best fit. The line of best fit should be drawn in to have approximately the same number of data points above and below the line.
To find the equation of the line:
1) Pick two points that are on your line. The points do not have to be data points, just any two coordinates that fall on the line
2) Find the slope between the two points.
3) Write the equation of the line in use the slope and one of the points on the line and write a point­slope equation.
