1 point perspective house – the steps
Objective: I can draw a house using 1 point perspective.
Tip: Three lines are allowed in 1 point perspective: vertical lines, horizontal lines and orthogonal lines.
1. Draw a horizon line a third of the way down from the top of the page. Add a vanishing point on the
right side of the page.
2. Draw a 2 ½ inch square on the left side of the paper that starts 1 inch from the left boarder and 1 ½
inches from the bottom of the page. This will be the garage.
3. Draw a rectangle that is 4 inches long and 3 inches tall. Attach this to the square. This will be the
house.
4. Draw a line from the bottom right corner of the rectangle toward the vanishing point that is 2 inches
long. This will be the side of the house.

5. Draw a
vertical line up
from the end
point of this line.
6. Draw a VP line
from the upper
left corner of the
rectangle to the
VP. Cut off the
line and firm it in
to make the top
of that wall.

The roof: 1. Draw an X in the orthogonal wall to get the center of the plane.

2. Draw a vertical line from the center of the X to get the top of the peak of the roof. Place it above the
horizon line to give enough room for a gable.
3. Draw the lines from the peak of the roof to the sides of the building. Looks like a triangle.
4. Draw a horizontal line to form the roof top. 5. Draw a parallel line, with the right roof line, to finish
the roof.

7. Garage roof: X the plane to get the center.
8. Draw a vertical line from the center of the X to get the roof peak.
9. Draw in the lines from the roof top to the sides of the building. Looks like a triangle.
10. Draw an orthogonal line from the garage roof top to the VP. Stop when the house roof is
intersected. Done with the basic 1 point perspective house and garage shape.
