Auditions for Mt San Jacinto College, Menifee Valley Campus
production of
The GREAT GATSBY
Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately
pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway,
a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their
world of obsession, greed and danger. The
breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz
Age comes to the stage in F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic
novel, and in Simon Levy's adaptation, approved by
the Fitzgerald Estate.
Auditions are open to MSJC students and the community at large. Everyone of college age and
above and actors of any ethnicity are welcomed to audition. High School juniors and seniors who
qualify for concurrent enrollment are also invited to audition. The college is also interested in
hosting guest artists with extensive resumes.
AUDITION INFORMATION
DATES: Tuesday December 8th with call backs on Wednesday January 20th
TIME: 6:00pm
WHERE: Mt San Jacinto College Lab Theater, Menifee Valley Campus, Room 207, 28237 La
Piedra Rd, Menifee 92584.
WHAT: Please prepare a Monologue (2 minute maximum) from a play of the actor's choosing.
Monologues should show the actor’s range. Actors are expected to bring a picture and resume.
PREPARATION: Interested actors are encouraged to read the script prior to auditioning. Actors
may be asked to do readings from the script in addition to their prepared monologues.
Everyone who is cast in the production must enroll as a student in the course THA 201, Rehearsal and
Performance with the exception of guest artists.
The Director is Carol Damgen, a full-time faculty member at CSUSB and Associate faculty at MSJC-MVC.
She has won twelve Inland Theatre League Awards for Acting, Directing, Playwriting and Scene Design, is a
member of the Screen Actors Guild, AFTRA and the Dramatist Guild and the Co-Vice Chair for the National
Playwriting Program for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

The classes / rehearsals are Mon/Wed/Thur evenings 7:00pm to 9:50pm starting January 21st.

There will be 4 public performances – April 14th-17th.
•
There will be a tech rehearsal on Saturday, April 9th and additional evening rehearsals during the week prior
to the opening night. We are looking for reliable team players who can commit to these dates.
TECHNICAL PARTICIPANTS:
We are also looking for people to work behind the scenes to assist with sound, lights, props, set construction,
projections, photography, production work and costumes. If you are interested in these things and want to
enroll as a student or become an official volunteer, please come to the audition and let us know.

Jordan Baker - Daisy’s friend with an athletic, almost masculine body
Myrtle Wilson - Tom’s girlfriend, New York, fleshy and sensual
George Wilson - New York, Myrtle’s husband, spiritless and anemic
