*Bachelor’s degree or higher
**Long-term rates Do Not Apply to any non-degreed substitute or any paraprofessional assignments
To qualify for more than $90.00 per day, a degreed or certified substitute must work more than twenty (20) full days in
the same assignment
•
Example: If a degreed and/or certified sub works for twenty-two full days in the same assignment on a
continuous basis, pay would be calculated as follows:
22 days @ $100/day = $2,200.00
A Typical Day
• Arrive early if possible.
First thing, check in with the front office. Early arrival allows you time to read the teacher’s plans and
become familiar with neighboring teachers.
• Read over the plans.
Become familiar with the materials you will use during the day. Pay close attention to special
directions, times, and any behavior system the campus uses.
• Prepare for students to arrive.
Make sure instructions are clearly posted and write your name on the board. Greet the students at the
door with a handshake and introduce yourself.
•
Take attendance.
Use the skyward form to mark students that are not present. Take this to the office at a later time or
have a student take it down.
• Leave notes
Communication is key when you are working in a teacher’s classroom. He/She will want to know
how the class went and what was completed or not during the day. Take time at the end of your day
to write a note about the day.
• Leave the classroom as you found it.
Be sure to have the students clean up after themselves before leaving the classroom. Clean up any
materials you may have used and leave them where the teacher had them when you arrived.
• Take part in any duty the teacher may have.
All teachers have additional duties during the day (lunch, recess, or afterschool). Find out what they
are and what you need to do to fill his/her spot.
Technology
Technology is used everyday in the classroom. Be ready to use it! Not every
campus has the same technology. If you are not sure how to work it, ask. If your
classroom has a laptop with a docking station, please do not remove the laptop as
these can break easily! Here are some helpful pictures and tips:
Should stay on PC
Some will have additional buttons:
Wall plate- Controls what is
shown on overhead projector.
Can show PC screen or
document camera.
Freeze- the screen freezes on the image and
will not change when you change your
computer screen or item under the
document camera.
AV Mute- this will take the picture off of
the screen but not completely shut off the
projector. This is good to use while you are
in class but not using the projector.
Overhead projector- projects image onto
screen or smartboard. Turn this on and
manage its use with the wall plate shown in
the previous slide.
Document Camera- projects worksheets and items onto the screen.
Turn on by pressing and holding the on button. You can also zoom in
and out or move the lens to desired distance. The source button in the
middle will let you switch from the document camera view to the
computer screen without turning off.
Smart Board- images from the computer or document camera are projected here.
If you want to write on it, use the pens in the tray. You can only use one color at a
time. You must put the pen down to use another. This also acts as a touch screen
for the computer monitor. This turns on and off automatically when you turn on
the projector using the wall plate controls.
Look for specific instructions regarding the use of these items. With our districts
MyWyFi program, many students also bring their own devices.
