New Jersey Lottery Instant Ticket Players Received
Record-Breaking Prize Payouts in March
Does Your Cat Like to Scratch?
TRENTON, N.J. – (May 2, 2016) – In March, instant ticket players won a record-breaking $11.5 million
in annuity payouts of prizes greater than $10,000. There were 55 top-tier prizes paid with the largest
being a Win $2,500 a Week for Life ticket. The second and third largest prizes paid were for the 100X
the Cash and $2,000,000 Mega Cash games. For the month, including all prize levels, instant ticket
players claimed more than $115 million.
Farooq M. from Hamilton, N.J. in Mercer County claimed the
$2,500 Win for Life ticket. The 20-year old opted to receive
the $2,300,000 cash value. Farooq said that he typically
bought two or three instant tickets per month at his local
retailer, Pantry 1 Food Mart, 2013 Hamilton Ave., Trenton.
After the clerk scanned the ticket and handed it back, he
said, “Here you go, your life is set.” Farooq plans on going
back to college to complete his education and financially
providing for his younger brother and sister’s education
also.
James N. from
Moonachie, N.J. in Bergen County won a $2 million 100X
the Cash instant ticket top-prize opting for the cash value
payout of $1,505,400. James recently retired from his
position as a school bus driver after 25 years which was
his second career after being a chef. James said that he
had a dream about winning the Lottery but he won
playing a different game so perhaps he has another win
coming soon. James provided “a little bit of security” to
each of his two sisters and one brother and his 11 nieces
and nephews. He and his cat Wilma live a simple, quiet
life. The lucky retailer who sold the ticket is Quick Mart Subway, 213 Washington Ave., Little Ferry in
Bergen County.

Mr. A. Elgamal from Clifton, N.J. in Passaic County is newly
retired from a maintenance position at a local church. He
“thank(s) God for this,” and says that it was an early birthday
present. Keeping the win in perspective, as he claimed the
cash prize of $1.375 million, he said, “Money is not
everything. It’s your health and happiness that count.” He
will provide financial gifts to his two children. Mr. Elgamal
also won a Jersey Cash 5 jackpot of $134,000 in 2010 and he
isn’t done yet. He plans on winning the Powerball next! “I
always win the Powerball $4.00 – my money is going to
come in.” Mr. Elgamal’s lucky retailer is Dollar Brothers &
More, 76-98 Main Ave., Passaic.
Diane G. from Mantua, N.J. in Gloucester
County is the winner of a $1,000 a Week for
Life top prize. She is a big instant ticket fan
as is her ticket-scratching cat, Marblehead.
“I’ve been praying for help after falling upon
hard times, so this has helped me from the
financial situation I was struggling through,”
Diane said. Her first purchase was to get rid
of some old clunker cars and purchase new
cars for herself and her mom. Diane’s lucky
retailer is Pantry 1 Food Mart, 851 Kings
Highway, Woodbury in Gloucester County.

Executive Director said, “Congratulations to
all of our top-prize winners and to the
thousands of other instant ticket prizewinners
throughout the state this month.
Everyone’s a winner with the Lottery because game revenue
supports vital educational programs and institutions, tuition aid grants,
school nutrition programs, veterans’ homes, and other beneficiaries across
the state.” A minimum of 30 percent of game revenue is contributed to the state on
behalf of these recipients. In March, instant ticket sales generated an estimated $33
million towards funding Lottery beneficiaries. For Fiscal Year 2016, instant tickets
have generated nearly than $282 million toward the funding of good causes.
