What is the Ziggurat Model of
Planning for Students with
Disabilities?
Wednesday, January 21, 2015
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Board of Education Meeting Room
23160 Moakley Street
Leonardtown, MD 20650
The Ziggurat Model is based on the premise that one must first understand why
individuals are engaging in specific behaviors and identify what is reinforcing for them
before attempting to teach them new skills and utilizes a student’s strengths to address
underlying deficits. The Ziggurat approach provides a process and framework for
designing individualized, comprehensive intervention plans for individuals with Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities
Marcy Hough, SMCPS Supervisor of Special Education, with Instructional Resource
Teachers for Autism, Lisa Dean and Joe Schlereth, will explain the Ziggurat approach and
how it can be used to plan for students with ASD and other students with developmental
disabilities.
This workshop for parents is free, but registration is required.
