Medical Nutrition Therapy is recognized by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other private insurance agencies when provided by a registered dietitian. Congress continues to support the expansion of MNT services by amending the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) referred to as Public Law 110-275 and is now part of the United States Code. This amendment improves beneficiary access to preventative services and a way to expand MNT in 2009. This new law will expand MNT services as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services based on reasonable and necessary services to prevent or early detection of an illness or disability; findings from the United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF); and appropriate to individuals entitled to benefits under part A or enrolled in part B of Medicare. USPSTF systematic review of literature recommends intensive behavioral dietary counseling for adult patients with hyperlipidemia and other known risk factors for cardiovascular and diet-related chronic disease. As the extent of MNT coverage continues to evolve, Insight Dietitians are prepared to provide nutrition counseling for all disease states to assist physicians and patients. Our Mission To bring expert nutrition care to physicians and their patients, in an efficient and economical manner.
