Happy Easter
Lent Reflections Part 6:
The Alpha and Omega
Christ is Risen. He is truly Risen!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
With such formidable opponents awaiting us in
the desert of sin, the temptation to give in to
fear is certainly understandable. That said, it is
always incorrect. We have nothing to fear, provided we
stay with Christ. For Christ is one, there is no other. In Him
everything in heaven and on earth was created, things
visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominations,
principalities, or powers; all was created through Him and
for Him (Col. 1:16 NAB). It is through Him and by Him that
all creation is reconciled to the Father, by the merits of His
sacred blood (Col. 1:20 NAB). Our only task is to bear
witness to the Lamb of God, He who was, who is, and who is
to come (Rev. 1:8 NAB), for he is the First and the Last, the
Alpha and the Omega (Rev. 22:13 NAB). He comes swiftly,
riding upon a white horse, and His name is Faithful and True
(Rev. 19:11 NAB). Finally, he has told us, in this world you
will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the
world (Jn. 16:33 NAB). So the answer to "what do we do,"
is look to Christ, for He is the way, the truth and the life (Jn.
14: 6 NAB). Do this and you will conquer the devil, the flesh
and the world.
This is the most mysterious, dramatic and
profound . . . and yes TRUE statement that will
ever pass our lips. Nothing else we can or will ever say
compares! Death has been conquered by love. The cross
leads to new life. This is not a vain hope. It is a real faith
passed down to us at an incalculable cost by the lives of
the martyrs. The Lord’s Resurrection is something we both
personally know and discover to be true whenever we
have the courage to die for what we believe in. When
we do this, new life results. Life gets bigger. It grows
stronger. It gets happier!
So Happy Easter everyone! Do not be afraid to leave
your old self behind. The small pleasures of our sins cannot
compare to the beauty and glory and fullness of life to
which we have been called, if only we are courageous
enough to actually try being Christians!
The light of Easter that has dawned is now to grow in
intensity for the 50 days in front of us, until that light
becomes a fire that is the Holy Spirit. The final fruit of
Easter is the Father and the Son pouring into our hearts
the very love that they share, the Holy Spirit, at Pentecost.
Easter is not a day - it’s a season that gains momentum
until Pentecost!
This is the most exciting time of the year for a Christian!
Dare to live it! Happy Easter to you and yours!

Your Easter Donations: A Blessing for Priests
You will notice in
your envelopes or
online the second
collection
for
Easter.
This
collection goes first
of all to provide
retirement benefits
to priests who have
served our parishes over many, many years. Many of these
priests still work as hard as ever in their 'golden' years to
provide sacraments and care through the
Archdiocese. Secondly, the collection supports the continuing
education and spiritual formation of priests. Finally, the
collection supports the education of seminarians, including
our interns here at Christ the King, Deacon Mark Ostrowski
and Justin Hamilton. Each of the 28 seminarians of the
Archdiocese costs approximately $40,000 a year when you
take into account tuition, room and board, stipends and
benefits.
Candidates to be Confirmed
Abigail JoAnn Blint
Ashley Finan
Bianca Keating
Raven Caryolne Rose Sage
We would like to congratulate and welcome our new Catholics
to our community. Thanks to the sponsors and our community
who by their faith and example, have called for these men and
women to receive the sacraments. May God bless you all for
your prayer and work.
Easter Blessings
Each year at this holy time we are reminded
of the talented people who make up the
Community of Christ the King. Many
parishioners have worked to help make this
weekend one of solemn worship and joy.
We would like to thank all of our liturgical ministers,
liturgical environment committee and all the musicians who
have made this Triduum a prayerful experience. May our
love of Christ be evident in our hospitality, our worship and
in our family gatherings as we leave here. May the Risen
Christ open our hearts to his love, his promise and to his
dwelling in the people around us. Easter Blessings!
Fr. Mitchel, Fr. Zarse and the Staff of Christ the King
Christ the King Church
Thank you for considering a gift along with your prayers for
the strength of the priesthood. Your gift offsets the
approximately $50,000 assessment that Christ the King
pays to the Archdiocese for priestly formation.

Strategic Plan Published April 9th/10th
On the weekend of April 9th and 10th you will receive with the bulletin a
strategic planning document that details the contributions parish councils and
committees will be making to this following vision:
Cultivate and increase holy friendships through compelling, personal encounters
with Christ our King and all people He gives our parish to serve.
I want to thank the over 100 parishioners serving in leadership, and giving of
their time and talent to multiply the gifts God has given to our family. Along
with the plan will be a prayer card that I ask parishioners to pray each day
for their own spiritual growth and for the growth of our parish.

Works of Mercy Completed as of March 16: 624
This story was sent to me by a CTK parishioner:
A parishioner in a catechumen class expressed a desire to
live a Catholic life to the best of her abilities. As part of
that decision, she and all of her family members felt called
to participate in the Works of Mercy Challenge. She chose
renewing an old friendship at her work, but was not sure
how to go about it. She was given advice to pray about it,
so she did. This parishioner is a KU graduate. While at KU,
she had a falling out with a once close roommate and often
wondered what ever happened to this former roommate.
One day, while in Emporia for a work related day, the
parishioner was eating lunch alone. The former roommate
showed up alone at the same lunch place. The parishioner
said a prayer. She decided God had sent her to Emporia
for this reason. She approached the roommate and asked
for forgiveness. She also asked to share lunch. They did,
and amends were made. The roommate said she had been
thinking about the parishioner for years as well.
If you have any Works of Mercy stories you would like to
share, please send them to Lori Rowe at the email listed
below.

Personally Sharing the Catholic faith
As we prepare for Easter and are looking for ways to
share the Easter story with children, try using Resurrection
Eggs! This is a “hands on” way to lead children through the
last days of Jesus and his glorious resurrection. Each of the
colorful plastic twelve eggs contain a symbol inside and
coincide with a Scripture story that can be used over
twelve days or during
an entire setting.
Sometimes children
enjoy guessing what’s
inside after you read
the story. However you
use the eggs, be
creative.
Using
Resurrection Eggs can
even become a family
tradition that you will all enjoy for years to come. You can
find details on where to purchase them at:
www.FamilyLife.com or 1-800-FL-TODAY.
Attending
Mass
with
23,000
youth, 250+ priests, 18 bishops, 50
deacons and 50 seminarians is a life
changing experience! This past fall,
six high school students and 2 adults
from CTK joined hundreds of others from the archdiocese
for a pilgrimage to the National Catholic Youth
Convention (NCYC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lucas Oil
Stadium was transformed from a football stadium into a
place of worship with the Young Catholic Church. This 3
day pilgrimage also included workshops to meet the
needs and interests of each of our youth -- helping them
discern their future, energizing their passion for their faith,
helping them navigate their teen years, and yes inspiring
each of us to EVANGELIZE. When one's passion is ignited
through such a powerful pilgrimage, one cannot help but
share the good news with anyone who will listen! Thanks
to the CTK raffle to help fund our trip! To learn more
about NCYC check out this website. http://www.ncyc.info/

Support for Marriage and Family
In addition to giving a Children's Homily on the 1st Sunday
of each month at the 11am Mass. Fr. Zarse and Fr. Mitchel
would like to reach out more in support of marriage and
families. To this end, we are happy to announce the
following initiatives and invitations.
Liturgy Thanks!
Catholic liturgies are really
amazing. There is such a depth
to the prayer, participation by
so many, and layers of
tradition and meaning.
Of
course, there is also beauty. As
human persons we long for
beauty; in fact, we can't live without
it. Beauty, combined with prayer,
draws us out of ourselves and into
communion with the things that are
beyond us but for which we are
made! Beauty gives glory to God who
is the source of every good thing we
have.
Marriage Blessings
The first Sundays of April, July, October, and January, a
marriage blessing will be given to all couples celebrating
wedding anniversaries in the upcoming three months. The
blessing will be at the end of the petitions. On that Sunday,
all parishioners are encouraged to bring a random note of
support and/or small gift card so that those celebrating
anniversaries can leave with our prayer, support and can
enjoy a special moment together. First blessings are April
3rd!
Families Freely and Fully Faithful
Fr. Zarse and Fr. Mitchel want to show our support for those
couples and families who are trying to live the Church's
challenging and counter-cultural teaching in the area of
sexuality, and are passing the fullness of the Catholic faith
on to their children. If this is you, feel welcome to come for a
sandwich lunch in John XXIII room on April 17th from noon1:30pm. Fr. Mitchel will speak at 12:45. RSVP to
[email protected].
As we have just celebrated the most
solemn liturgies of the
Church year, now is the
perfect time to thank
you for the countless
works that you have
contributed to the
liturgy. Maybe you
are in your pew
praying
and
participating
as
hard as you can.
Maybe you set the liturgical
environment. Maybe you sing in choir, or play and
instrument. Maybe you usher, or lector, or serve, or greet
or distribute communion! Whatever your role, thank you
for embracing it, for blessing our community with your
gifts, and for enhancing our sacred liturgies.
Attention Seniors
Christ the King is a sponsoring church for the
programs offered through Shepherd’s
Center.
Their Adventures in Learning
Program will be held each Friday, starting
April 8th morning in February, and is a great time
to try out what they have to offer seniors! Check
it out at shepherdscentertopeka.org!

experience of grief and loss into a future with renewed
hope. The sessions focus on topics of the grief process,
changes in family and other relationships, trust, and coping
with memories of your deceased spouse or dealing with your
ex-spouse. The next program will meet on Tuesday evenings:
April 12 – May 24, 2016 from 7:00–9:00 pm at Mother
Teresa. For additional information, or to register, please
call Angie at (785)220-7773 or Jerry Jennings at (785)766
-6497.
What is amazing is that we welcome literally 200,000
plus persons to our sacred Church space throughout the
year. That's a conservative estimate. One cannot even
begin to imagine
the number of
prayers said, the
thoughts
and
inspirations that
have been raised
in our hearts, the
healing and new
hope that our
l i t u r g i e s
inspire. We do it
all for very little cost, because of you, because hundreds
of you give unselfishly and consistently to make our
liturgies wonderful.
Greeter Ministry
Christ the King has a need for up to 8 greeters

along with the sign-up sheets. Give it a try! Thanks for
making Christ the King the best place to worship!
Thank you! May you be blessed in your generosity, and
have a small glimpse of the good you accomplish by
helping us pray at Christ the King!

Christ the King
Divine Mercy Sunday
The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God
loves us – all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His
mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him
with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to
others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.
Please come and celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, April 3rd
at MPH, starting with confessions from 1-1:45 pm and the
reciting the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy at 3 pm.. There
will a reception following in O’Connor Hall immediately
following.
